Hey Guys-
I posted a similar question to this a while back but thought I would try again b/c it seems to be becoming a pretty constant issue.

When I'm out running around the 2nd mile I start to feel a little ache in the back of my knee-right in the pit-it doesn't hurt anywhere else. It's almost not noticeable until I stop running-that's when it really hurts. When I'm running it might be on a scale of 1 and when I stop it jumps up to a 6 or so. I can start running again and it stops hurting as bad.

Doing track work outs are becoming impossible-running 2X800's and then stopping for a min.

The pain is almost like something digging into the back of my knee. And it feels like there is a rubber band stopping me from straightening it out. While it's bent it's not that bad.

So I just wanted to see if this strikes a cord with anyone. I guess I'm hoping somebody might have had this same thing happen and can give me a few pointers. I end up running and then icing every single night. I know a dr. would know best but for now that's not such a hot option.

Thanks!

M

I had similar pain in the back of my right knee a couple years ago. Actually woke up the morning of my last race that season with some tightness behind the knee. Felt it swimming a little but it pretty much went away on the bike and run. After I crossed that finish line it was another story! I hobbled back to the car and when it didn't seem to get better, saw the doc, got x-rays and all that but it turned out to by my hamstring. The 3 components of the muscle were bound pretty tight - they couldn't move past each other smoothly and the end result was pain behind the knee. Physical therapy (incl. ultrasound and ART), along with a few exercises to teach my hamstrings to activate properly and I haven't had the issue since. I also try to make sure to stretch them often now. Hope you can get it taken care of soon! Let me know if it is the same thing or something else.
