Setting up a bike focused training program
I have read a few articles on splitting workouts. How intense are you getting? Typically this time of year people start dialing back their intensity and ramping up duration, unless you have cyclocross or something coming. I have also read of splitting up endurance sessions. something like 1:30 in the morning and 1:30 and the evening.
On anopther note, I would try to run 3x a week. 2x will barely maintain any sort of run fitness.

I am doing an olympic distance race in March. I live in Phoenix so I was planing to do a lot of cycling this winter. I don't think I really need to build much base but I need major work on getting faster.

That's me man. I am super slowpoke on the bike. Let me know if you figure out anything clever.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
How much of a base do you have. Cycling is all TITS. Time in The Saddle. I wouldnt jump right into a high intensity program more than 10 weeks out from your goal race. You CAN do a bit of weightlighting and hard gear endurance rides to build up muscular endurance. Too much intensity cant be sustained for too long. A buddy of mine started burning out at the end of this year- just in time for nationals. He was all intensity all the time. Remember: Base, Build, Peak. You can NEVER have too much base, its money in the bank.

Overcome, I have a HIM in april and I'm looking for the magic bullet too. I agree with Triguy98 and the TITS method. Lets look at it this way for your March race. Is this an A race? If so I'd recommend building a base so you can go the entire time duration you're looking for at that race. Say a 2:15-2:30 on the bike.
When you can bike for 2 straight hours with no trouble or soreness (low(er) intensity) and repeat this day in and day out with your running/swimming/lifting (it's all about consistency) THEN add the intensity sessions in Mid Jan, plenty of time to build wicked speed before your race.
Be sure to also do intensity sessions on the run as well. With intensity you'll want a shorter duration but here you'll be relying on that base. If you KNOW you can go 2-3hrs on the bike no problem, you'll have confidence to go hard for 1hr no problem. Also, I'd cut the weights before adding the intensity. Good luck.
Weary is the path that does not challenge.

I am setting up a new training plan for the next few months and I am planing on focusing on biking. My plan is to bike 5 days per week, run twice per week, swim twice per week, and do weights twice per week. I have been reading on workout intensity and performance and was wondering if it would be better if on the bike days I split the workout into two shorter but more intense sessions.
