Awesome... California now gets a TTT as well! I think Mike and I will be there! He has a full iron Aug 1st, so hopefully he'll be recovered enough to enjoy it, and not recovered enough to mind being closer to my speed :)

Like the one in Ohio this event offers 3 days of racing -- with 4 events -- and both solo and 2-person team divisions.

Race #1: Prologue - Friday, September 18, 5:00 PM 250m Swim - 5 mi Bike - 1 mi Run
RACE RULES: All individual times count towards the team time. Any individual (solo and team) finishing in the top five overall will receive a 30 second bonus time. Drafting is not allowed.

Race #2: Individual Time Trial - Saturday, September 19, 7:30 AM 1500m Swim - 24.8 mi Bike - 6.2 mi Run
RACE RULES: All individual times count towards the team time. Any individual (solo and team) finishing in the top five overall will receive a 30 second bonus time. Drafting is not allowed.

Race #3: Team Triathlon - Saturday, September 19, 3:00pm 24.8 mi Bike - 1500mi Swim - 6.2mi Run
RACE RULES: All teams must start and finish together. This unique triathlon format starts on the bike in a time trial start going every 10 seconds followed by a 1500 meter swim, then finishes with a 6.2 mile run. Drafting is allowed ONLY among each team. NO drafting among SOLO’s. Start order for teams is determined by the highest ranking team member.

Race #4: Team Time Trial - Sunday, September 20, 7:00am 1.2 mi Swim - 56 mi Bike - 13.1 mi Run
RACE RULES: All teams must start and finish together. Start order for teams is determined by the highest ranking team member. Drafting is allowed ONLY among each team. NO drafting among SOLO’s.

Yeah, that's one of the most common responses I've heard about it -- 2010 since already in for 2009 IMC :) But for some reason you are the first one that has reminded me that means we had hoped to be volunteering in Canada the 30th, which makes the travel time a bit tricker...

well hmm I know a friend and I drove from SF in a day, so you COULD drive like crazy up in 2 ( since penticton is about 6 hrs from Seattle) and back in the same, but that may not help if you are planning to compete, taking 2 days off each direction. You could hang out and train up there though.

Oh so tempting. My 2009 calendar is almost full. I was planning on IM 70.3 Cancun in September and turning it into a vacation. But I could do this instead and make it a tri and wine vacation. I do love Central Coast (?) California . . . so many races, not enough (vacation) time. Any guess on how long it takes for the solo div to fill up? You can do all four races solo? A sprint on Friday; two Olympics on Sat; and a half on Sunday? Did I read that right?

I didn't look at this one, but I participated in the one in OH this year. It is an absolutely awesome race, and I'll definitely go if I can find the money and time. For the one in OH it got filled up in like 2 weeks I think. So it was pretty fast, I don't know how it'll be in CA.

I'm not sure how fast, but I believe the only option is doing all the races -- and as a solo or team -- I don't think there are any single race categories. 500 people allowed.

I've been told by someone that the one in Ohio was harder on his body than an IM. Enter with caution.

I've been told that by multiple people...the course is pretty difficult in itself, but add to that the fact that you'll go into the HIM on Sunday with already the distance of more than a HIM under your belt in the previous 2 days. That combined with the soreness/stiffness that is already building from the rest of the weekend make the HIM on Sunday quite a battle

That does sound really cool. Wish I had some disposable income to do this one.

Nothing to it, but to do it

I think my IM was way harder on my body than the TRiple-T in Ohio. However, I didn't go fast on the second olympic distance on Saturday, because I had to wait for my buddy, who felt terrible that weekend, and the next 2-3 weeks.
I do agree that you need to know yourself before you enter, it is a hard but fun weekend.

i love events that are unique. this seems like a cool idea.

i'm considering doing this with a friend of mine. i have done a half IM in the past, but am a little unsure how to train for this type of event. should i approach the training as just doing a half IM? how do you prepare your body for the back to back olympic tris followed by a half IM the next day?

any suggestions are appreciated! thanks!
