So I picked up with crossfit endurance to do my training and try to pick up some speed. Have a couple of good things to report.

1) You can deviate from the plan and make gains, maybe I am missing out some, but everything is getting faster.
2) Set a new personal run best on my 3.6 mile course at 90% effort. Total time 28:01. Not smoking but for me faster.

Am I where I want to be, not quite, can I beat my bud yet, getting close if my course is indicative of a normal 5k. Is it helping my tri times, won't know that until next spring, but overall my individual times are dropping.

I've just recently learned about CrossFit and did a tiny bit of reading about it. One of the points the article mentioned was that the workouts were possibly too intense. So much so that there's a possibility of death. I recall something about too much muscle breakdown releasing harmful byproducts into the bloodstream or something along those lines.

How intense are these workouts???

I've read about it too over the last year that I've been aware of it. I've seen several crossfit gyms open up here and they seem to be well populated.

I suspect there may be a certain machoness that fits the power mindset of crossfit, but my bet is that it could be a really good off season strength builder, even for us triathletes.

As with anything, moderation, proper technique, and discretion about starting at an appropriate level will help not "kill" you.

Oxygen, water, and ham sandwiches can kill you in proper amounts and placement, so I wouldn't be too worried about your workouts. Be smart and be safe.

Congrats on the speed gains! You're faster than me (but I'm pretty dang slow ;) )

Workouts are pretty dang intense. But as someone said use some common sense and you will be OK. I think the death issues that are cropping up are people who are totally ill equipped for a stressful workout and most of a triathlete's training would kill these people, just my thoughts.

Again I will keep everybody updated as the winter training progresses and I move into the realm of 5k's and 10k's.

I am interested now...can you give us a sense of workout structure? Ie duration, pace, HR target etc?

That is the link to the daily speed and endurance work. Not sure it is for everyone, but it is working for me.
