Autumn Colors Tri anyone??
I considered doing this race, but signed up to do a 1/2 mary in Spring Lake instead. I wrapped up the tri season w/Reeds Lake. Autumn Colors does look like fun! Make sure you do a RR and let us know how it went. From the race description it looks kind of challenging. As far as the cold goes, if it is not too bad, I just take some tylenol or psuedephed(sp?) and go w/ it. If it is not an "A" race, just have fun and call it a training day. Welcome to Trifuel! Where in Michigan do you live? I am in the G.R. area. Good luck this weekend! Looks like GREAT weather!
Thanks for the reply! I live in between Flint and Pontiac so Holly is actually close by so I have checked out the bike course but not ridden it. I appreciate the advice on whether or not to race- I have been undecided all week and thought i would feel exponentially better by now but I will probably just take it easy and do it. Not an A-race at all but concerned because being sick has totally derailed my training and the distance is further than most sprints and then add in the hills...sounds like I am trying to talk myself out of it. The weather is supposed to be beautiful which certainly helps! Have you done any triathlons on Lake Michigan? I was considering the Ludington race for next year but a little afraid of the BIG lake swim and waves.
I have not done anything but practice in the big lake. I did Grand Haven this year, but the whole thing was switched to a du, 'cause of that crazy lake:) I have quite a few friends who have done Ludington and LOVED it. The swim is in the marina, so it is quite protected. I am planning on doing some races in your neck of the woods next season, so a mini Trifuel meeting will be necessary, if not before then. There are some pretty fun sounding races in the thumb, too. Again, good luck this weekend! Becky.
I will need luck for sure!
This was my first season but looking forward to next year already with so many people to meet and events to choose from.

Welcome to the forum! I'm not the best person to ask about being sick and racing/training, but general rule of thumb is if you feel it above the neck keep going, below the neck take some time off. For a race, if it was a cold (and not flu/infection/more serious) I'd probably go for it. And best of luck at the race if you do go :)

For two years in a row now, I have contemplated doing this race --added it to the race calendar in August, only to scratch it off in early September. I am over on the GR side of the state, so not real close and after six to eight tris in the season, I'm just tuckered out!
With respect to the cold, my last race was Reeds Lake in East GR and I had a head cold --needed to "snot rocket" on the bike and, well, um, that didn't work out very well. I had a small race towel in T1 and T2 and used that to quickly "cleanse" the nostrils --worked well and you only need so many commemorative race towels lying around.
If you do the race, good luck and I look forward to the RR!
Oh, and welcome to TriFuel --great community, with great people, and great advice!

Anyone registerd for Autumn Colors Tri in Holly, MI this Saturday? It seems they are a bit low on participants this year. Has anyone done this course before? Also, is it wise to race while still getting over a head cold? Kids are back in school and already generously shared the germs with me.
Thanks! See you all there....(maybe)
