wow that's amazng - why would anyone get cold feet? I'm too chicken but it's a great oppurtunity for someone
what I'm up to:

They didn't necessarily get cold feet. Many athletes pick up the voucher the day before the race to hedge their bets. If they don't meet their goals this year, they'll sign up again. But if they feel OK with the race and don't have a burning desire to repeat the training right away, they won't use the voucher.
really? that sounds a bit odd but we are an odd bunch. oh well

GOODIE!!! Thanks RV ! I would not have seen that. Gonna go for try #2 ......If I don't get in, I guess it is just "not meant to be" again until 2010 :) and I will just do AZ. Hubby wants me to try that one anyway, perhaps it has to do with Arizona in November and no 5 day min stay in a hotel :)
In any case wish me luck.
But if theyfeel OK with the race and don't have a burning desire to repeat the training right awaycrash and burn, they won't use the voucher.

That's certainly another scenario, though most of the people I talked to planned to use the voucher IF they crashed and burned or if the weather was awful, etc.. I guess a 3rd scenario for not using it at Wisconsin would be if you qualified for a 2009 Kona spot.

or just deciding to try and get into a different race for a different experience closer to home?

And ANOTHER scenario: They picked up a voucher, raced, and realized on Monday, "Why would I want to come back to IM Wisconsin?" Not that there's anything wrong with Madison. I liked Moo for my first. But I (and probably others) have no desire to re-race any IM.
I'm so tempted...
The longest tri I've done is a sprint, though... 750m/33k/7k.
I'd have done longer by now except for the swimming... my bike is there (have done 2 century rides now), my run is OK (doing a full marathon in Oct).
It's a whole year away, though, I'm sure I can get the swim there in time!
Sigh. Someone convince me to stick to the 70.3 until 2010, please. :)

Why?? I did 3 sprints before I did my first IMC. My hubby had done NONE.

Umm... you're suppose to convince me NOT to do it... :)
Tell me I'm not ready or something.

I'd be willing to bet that travel costs are starting to deter some. I could think of some closer non-Ford Ironman sanctioned events that wouldn't require ~2K to compete in.
That's funny, I said compete ;-)

I crashed and burned which is exactly why I did use the voucher. Watch out IMC. I'm out for revenge!

You're ready, go for it!
Jono ~ I'm fighting the same thing, my friend. IM Louisville REALLY needs to hurry up and fill so that the temptation is gone. My body knows it wants to wait for 2010. My mind on the other hand is so ready to put down that $525. Do what you want to do, and what you know is best.

JUST DO IT. If you have the time to train, there is no reason you cannot do it.
oh and it was $575 when I had my failed attempt to register 2 weeks ago, if it goes up tomorrow I may not be happy.
Go on,
..you know you want it!
It's a loverly feeling, pulling on that t-shirt that says, "Finisher" looping the medal around your neck (it's heavier than you think!) and tugging that cute little hat on at a jaunty angle, trying not to smirk like a buffoon but not really caring if people think you're a bit squirrelly because..
"YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!"

you guys are baaaaad; it even makes ME want to do it and I am NOT till 2010 at least, lest my hubby sends me to the loony bin (I think I have to work on him more than I have to work on my training)

Quote:Wrong site. You will NOT get that here. As Britt said, no biggie, do the time training and it's SO logical that if you get the nutrition down, some training you CAN finish.
It's simple, remember 2:20hrs. to finish the swim, finish the bike before 5:30pm on the day and you have from 5:30pm to midnight to finish a marathon. It's VERY doable if you have the desire and drive. Sounds like you do. What's stopping you?

I'm from the Toronto area, so a bit of a hike to go for a ride. :)
But I'll definitely be there the race week, hope to meet a few trifuelers when I get the chance!

damn it....IM Louisville is STILL open. Holding off is getting tougher and tougher when the option is still right there ready for the taking. Road trip to Ohio with my husband this weekend. We might have to discuss this again.
help - talk me OUT of it. No supportive "you can do it" comments allowed!
Hey it's only fair, they did it to me... :)
YOU CAN DO IT! Go for it!
jono
DOOOO ITTTTTTTT! What's the point of waiting?
No waiting ... push the button!

Anyone hoping to get into IMC 2009 have one more chance.
Additional General Entry Spots Available for Subaru Ironman Canada
Penticton, BC – The deadline for activation of the entry certificates claimed at registration for the 2009 Subaru Ironman Canada has passed and due to the lower than expected number of athletes that activated their certificates, North America Sports will be offering a limited number of additional slots.
The slots will be available through the race website, www.ironman.ca, beginning on Thursday, September 11th at 10 am PST. We expect that demand for these slots will be high and therefore interested athletes are encouraged to go to the website early.
