Trainer
Is that trainer better than the cyclops fluid 2? My recommendation would be to get the trainer. You're not going to be racing on a stationary are you?
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
A trainer is a good investment. A trainer is much better than a stationary bike - have immediate access to it - use your own bike.
Being in Wisconsin - I spend many an hour down in the basement on the trainer - I use the http://www.cycle-ops.com/p-118-fluid.aspx - you can find it cheaper than the list price.
Rollers are also a nice to have.
+1 on al this...the trainer is a great tool. Not only can you rack up some decent milage, but you can time trial, do steady state, hammer...whatever you want. If done right and consistently, it will make you a better cyclist.

I've been doing some research on the trainers and some people have been saying that the cyclops fluid 2 trainers start to leak after a while. After reading reviews on both, it seems the 1 up usa is better, but what is your opinion. Here is the website to check it out http://www.1upusa.com/
Let me know what you think
I thought my Cyclops Fluid 2 had a lifetime warranty, but I could be wrong. I've been happy with it so far.
Some of the hardcore people ride on a trainer even when it's nice outside, just because it's better training. No stopping for traffic or going coasting down hills. It's crazy, and I'd never do it, but it does support the argument that riding on a trainer is good practice.
I have a crappy mag trainer (loud as hell)... hey, undergrad was a poor time. I'm strongly considering the fluid 2 as well. What do ya'll think about rollers?

The Fluid 2 rocks. Just though I'd pile on.
Do you think I should get a used fluid 2 from my local shop for 200 or buy one new?

Check the warranty if you can. If it's still a lifetime warranty, then I don't see a reason to buy new.
I just got the Fluid 2 about a month ago and love it. It's quiet, and I've already gotten much stronger on the bike from using it.

Nothing against your LBS, but you may want to check this out.

I got my Fluid 2 brand spankin new off ebay for under $215 last year. Works like a charm, and is really quiet - especially if you've got tunes playing. You'll most likely find it below retail, but even at full price it's a good investment. In Niagara Falls, you're looking at 5 months minimum of trainer use - and you can use it anytime at your convenience. I looked at the 1up, but couldn't find much rave outside of their website. Plus, the price wasn't going to budge since it was only available from the company. Go with the Fluid 2 - my $0.02

I got mine used from ebay 2 years ago; no problems.
Nice thread, I'm also considering a trainer.....

I wanted to get people's opinions on whether or not it is worth it to get a trainer for my bike. I go to school in Niagara Falls and the winters get pretty nasty up here, but I want to stay active on my bike throughout the winter. Is it worth it to get a trainer or are the stationary bikes at the gym fine? I'm almost positive I'm going to get the 1 up usa if I get one but I wanted other peoples opinions before I spend $350
