Rules Question, fun idea
I think it's funny, but I'm sure you'll get people who are uber-serious who flame it. The bike size is probably going to be the problem: it may be too small. Check the rules and measure the bike.
5.11 Bicycle Specifications
(b) The distance from the ground to the center of the chain wheel axle must measure at least 24 centimeters (9.5");
(d) The "front-to-center" distance (front skewer to rear skewer) must measure not less than 54 centimeters (21")
Or the ref may get you with the vague and ambiguous Rule 5.12 Untraditional or Unusual Bicycle Equipment.
If the bike doesn't pass, you could get toy horns and streamers and put cards on the spokes of your real bike. That might be funnier. But that too will probably be frowned upon.
Ah yes it will probably be frowned upon but whatever. I race to have fun, if fun to me is trying to win my AG then no one seems to mind but if fun is doing something unconventional then some seem to get upset. That is part of the reason I will be asking the race director before hand to seed us in the last wave, and probably about the bikes.
Tri-ac: thanks for the idea hadn't thought about it
TriSooner: Thanks for those dimensions we'll have to go measure the bikes to see I think the ground to chain wheel axle will be what gets us. Definatly have too look at putting streamers and such on the real bike dunno think the little kid bikes would be a bit more amusing but we'll see.

A little bit like this . . .
or you could ride a bike like this:

That is a cool idea. You could check with the RD and if you are doing a non USAT race the rules might be more flexible.
Nothing to it, but to do it

AHHHH! Dang you.

Have a friend who does a lot of races in costume. Wonder Women, TinkerBell, Crazy Purple Team stuff and then will make her helmet some crazy invention. You have a great idea, but as everyone else run it by the race director. (now she has a kid and she ahsn't been around :()

Ok so this girl that I am starting to see and I while browsing Toys R Us (awesome date btw so much fun) came up with this idea. At one of the local sprint tris coming up we are just going to do it little kid style. So for the swim we are going to find suits that have like elmo or teenage mutant ninja turtles or whatever printed on them and use little kid type of goggles. The question comes in on the bike. We actually want to go and pick up two of those little kid bikes from the store, yes the ones with training wheels, horns, and all that jazz. Is that even legal to race on? We both know it won' be comfortable but awesome would it be to see two people racing down the course on these

with some clip on aero bars. Then of course the obligatory costume that matches the bike on the run (with sippy cups to refill at aid stations no less!). So can I race on a little kid bike or whats the ruling on that? We will probably ask to get seeded in the last wave so we don't obstruct people as I doubt I will be able to maintain much of a pace on that sort of bike.
