Commuting via bike
I buy baby wipes and/or pre-moistened makeup removal wipes and use those instead of just wet paper towels. Dove also makes some dry wipes that when you wet them foam up with cleanser.
That, and lots of deodorant! :-)

Ya I used to do that. Kept a face cloth in the washroom with a bottle of 5% rubbing alcohol. That way I didn't smell like a baby :-) But each morning I got in I waited till I stopped sweating and went to the bathroom and wiped down. Worked for me. We had a utility sink in there as well I used for washing. Here is a blog post of what it was like before I got to this new place where do have showers.

I ride at a leisurely pace. If I do start up a sweat, I have a towel I bring along to wipe my brow, otherwise I'll just have some ice water and stand in the server room for 5 minutes.
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
Ok this is for babies... but it works on big people too! :)
Squirt, rub, no rinsing, done. And you'll smell purty, too.
I used to keep a bag in my desk drawer with: Bar of Irish spring soap, Axe body spray, Deodorant, Washcloth, Hand towel. After cooling down outside, if possible, I would pick up my bag and head to the bathroom. Wet the washcloth and proceed to the handicapped stall. Clean up, dry off, spray top to bottom and get dressed as usual.
I also got to hanging my clothes either on my bike or somewher out of sight and nose reach.
Good Luck!
I ride through Chicago traffic (though with a bike lane most of the way) 5 days a week in a suit. Just cruise in on my Schwinn World Tourist
at about 10-12 mph. If the temp is over 70 or so I toss the jacket over my bag and ride in just my shirtsleeves. If it's raining, I just open the umbrella and ride a little more slowly.
I think you have to remember that it is a ride to work not a race or training day. Take it slow and take in the sights. i ride a lot of the same roads to school that i train on but see lots of different things because i go slower and enjoy my time. i dont sweat as much and just a quick splash of water and i am good to go.
If your going to do something wrong enjoy it.

I rode pretty leisurely, but it is Cincinnati, so it's humid...and I'm just a sweating person in general. Plus, I'm riding an old hybrid, which requires noticeably more energy, especially on the hills.
Thanks for the responses everyone
Plus, I'm riding an old hybrid, which requires noticeably more energy, especially on the hills.
My commuter weighs 35 lbs, so I know the feeling trying to roll it up a hill. I feel like Sisyphus (though I eventually reach the top). Just gear it down and lope along at 5 mph. Then coast down the other side. I'll take about 25-30 min for my 5.5 mile commute. Not fast by any means, and I force myself to breathe through my nose the entire time. If I have to gasp, I'm working too hard for a commute. Fortunately, it gets a bit better in winter when the weather drops below 0. No worries about sweating.
I live in FL and it gets hot and humid quite often. I used to do the washcloth and soap in my bag/desk trick and that worked for a while.....it just got old.
I now use a product sold at most pharmacies that is designed for adult sponge baths. It's called a personal cloth/wipe. It is found most times in the section with the adult diapers. It is bigger than the baby wipe. It smells less like something a little girl would wear, and is quite cheap. (about $5 for 50 or so wipes.)
If all else fails, everytime I go to TGIFridays, I get some of those big alcohol free wipes they give you when you eat ribs. The server/hostes will most often hand a quite a few if you ask them. (A nice tip never hurts either.)
Sometimes, I ride to work early and jump in the ocean for a quick swim. I then use the outside hose that I use to washout my wetsuit before the wipes.
/yes I do work in an office on the beach.
//love those lunch surf sessions when the waves are just right.
Maybe you could find a health club / YMCA / public pool within a klick from the office and shower there?
I used to wash up at the sink in the shared bathroom at my office, but 2 months ago I moved to a bigger suite because it has a shower. Only $225/month, compared to the 8x10 box I had before.
Now I's a happy camper. :)

Just did my first bike commute today =). I actually intentionally went a good 12 miles out of my way to pick up a friend so we could commute together (plus it makes for a nice ride talking with a good friend). This is all despite having a horrible time getting going (3 blown tubes, oh yes I was cursing quite a bit). But it was nice and it is a great feeling sitting in class with legs that actually mildly hurt from exercise (approx 25 mi at 20 mph pace with some nice rollers but pretty easy). Tomorrow i'm going on a bike ride but not commuting since I need to bring my swim gear, normal stuff, and I don't have any place to store my stuff so sadly tomorrow i go back to the ranks of car drivers.

Base 1 (Week 2, 16.5hrs)
Check out my blog!

Well, I recently moved to a safer neighborhood that also happened to be closer to my work, I had an old hybrid bike that was idle in the garage, so I fixed it up all weekend while adding a rear rack, lights, etc...to make it a full-scale errand-running/commuting machine (I'm very proud of my work BTW).
So this morning I did my first commute (~7.5 mi). The ride was pretty easy and traffic was much more accomodating than I expected. I figured everyone would throw coffee on me run me off the road in their early morning bitterness.
Either way, my question is this...Is there anyone here who commutes to a workplace without a shower on site? How do you keep clean?
I was sweating pretty good even though it was only mid-60s this morning and had to spend about 15-20 mins in the bathroom freshening up w/ paper towels in the sink. I know people in big cities ride in their suits even...how is this possible. I had a change of clothes, but could not imagine going straight to your desk off the bike.
Thanks in advance, and sorry I rambled so much...it's the coffee
