Damn You Gustav!
Sorry about the training. Thanks for being there and helping those in need...Some thing far more important.
Be safe...

Gustav is catching the blame for my bad training weekend also. They said there would be scatter storms today due to the feeder bands of the storm, but I went out on my 3 hour ride as my plan said to. 40 min from home it starts pouring. 30 min from home and someone in a truck offers me a ride, but I turn it down. 20 min from home and I wipe out on a corner. Ouch it hurts.
Also, thanks for helping out with the hurrican relief. My wife may be activated from the National Guard to go since she volunteered. Good stuff.
few people get to dedicate a lot of time to training like we do, even fewer are willing to stop to help people recover from a natural disaster. sorry about the hiccup in your 70.3 plans but i think whatever you are doing down there is great, thanks and the best of luck.
Aw c'mon guys! Stop being wuses! Think of he great headwinds that you could bike into to make you strong ;-)
It should be ok for the training to take some time off. No damage. Seriously, take cover and be safe! God bless.

I think it's great that you're there to help people in need- bummer for the training, but hopefully it won't be as bad as Katrina, and you will be out of there fast (for everyone's sake)

I guess life doesn't always allow you to follow your training plan. Things were going well with training. I've been following Matt Lieto's plan linked off this site and have been feeling great, minus the small injuries of course :) Just came off of my recovery week and have 5 more weeks of training to go until Ironman 70.3 Longhorn. Boise 70.3 was my first tri and I was just out to have fun and finish, this time around I feel like I could actually race the course.
Well, Friday morning the boss came in and said I was heading to Baton Rouge in support of Hurricane Gustav. So here I sit in Baton Rouge waiting to get pounded by Hurricane Gustav at the Joint Field Office. Which of course means training is completely out the door. No clue how long I'll be here, could be a week, could be a month. My first reaction was to get pissed b/c my life revolves around training, but of course there are things in life that take priority and you just move on.
So depending on how long I'm here for Gustav I may be changing my expectations in Austin, TX. If I get out of here in time I'm sure I can salvage the training. Once I get home I'll probably have questions about how to best tailor the program depending on how much time I have left to train. Right now I'm just hoping for the best with the storm so people here in Louisiana can get back to their normal lives.
I should have a place to sleep that is dry and and if all goes well all of my stuff will stay dry, b/c having wet underwear would just really ruin my day.
But I can always look at the bright side, I did get in to IMC 09, so the weekend hasn't been a total bummer.
