I guess it depends mostly on what gym you belong to and where you live in the city. There are great instructors at the Ballys in Lincoln Park and in Century City who's classes are more for cyclists. There is also an instructor at the West Loop Athletic Club who races in local events and runs a cyclist focused class.

I am temporarily moving to Chicago from Kona next week and am leaving my bikes behind :(. I will be living downtown and am looking for a good place for spin classes. I would also like to know which type of pedals most spin places use to see if it is worth brining my cycling shoes or not. Thanks in advance.
