Hi Everyone,

Since my scheduled half ironman shortened their bike course to 39 miles, I've decided to do the Quakerman instead on Sept 6. Anyone have info on this course? I've heard it is a little hilly and am slightly concerned.

Thanks for your help!

Lindsay

Lindsay,

I will be there on Saturday as well. The bike course is 3 loops with very few flat stretches. Most is rolling hills, but there are a few tough hills. The toughest is on rt. 313. Almost impossible to stay seated. The course is also open to traffic. Hasn't been a problem in the past. The run also has a big hill in the sun that you get to run up twice. Overall a challenging, but fair course.

Hi Lindsay, gfd,

I guess we will be at least three racing there. The course is three loop around the lake Nockamixon. It is fairly OK, but yeah it has few hills. The largest is on the RT313 which is like 3/4 of the loop. So you will encounter it 3 times. Another one - which is a long slow climb is at about half way point and is not that bad if you do not hammer it. I rode the course many times and one time I actually posted about it - you can review the profile in this post:

The run course is actually pretty tough - you basically run on the trail from marina to the road, then head up the hill then run on the road which is downhill, uphill and then again downhill. Then you turn, run back to the start and repeat. It is quite tough run course - quite hilly. But the race is very good. I enjoyed it a lot last year.

See you there on Saturday.

I should be at the transition area by 6:30. Let's try and meet.
You could be a part of "6 degrees of Beads".

Sounds like a secret community - you can recognize me easily - black S-works Specialized, most likely DeSoto speed suit and gray/silver Giro aero helmet plus huge backpack (that will later get dropped off in a car).

See you there I plan to be there around the same time.

Black Cervelo P2SL. Black 2XU Trifuel top and gray DeSoto tri shorts. Bald. I have the gray Giro aero helmet as well. My daughter's purple princess towel also makes my transition area easy to find.

If the Accuweather forecast holds true we are in for some "memorable" conditions on Saturday.
65 MPH gusts and driving rain. Bring the foul weather gear and a smile.

or maybe they will move it to Sunday. 81 and sunny.

Do you think they will still have the race?

We shall see. I checked the weather forecast too and it reminded me of last year when it was 90 degrees and humid at 7am. The conditions got only hotter as the day progressed. This year it seems to be shaping as another memorable day. I guess we will see how strong we are. Good thing about the wind is that we will be facing it only one way as this is a loop... The other three times we will have it in our back and sides. I wonder if that is good :-).

I don't think it will be canceled, but maybe modified if there really are 35 mph sustained winds and 65 mph gusts. Too dangerous on the bike, especially with a course open to traffic. I honestly don't know what will happen. I am hoping the storm takes a turn or is at least delayed until late afternoon.

well I can't make it sat this year so i'm hoping they postpone it but most likely they'll cancel portions as conditions dictate. still sounds better than last year.

I'm a little upset as I signed up for this race due to the fact that they shortened the course for diamondman. This is supposed to be my first half iron, so I hope it remains a half iron!!!!!

Yeah, but now that i've paid 2 entry fees, I'd rather not spend another $150 and be out $450 for a half iron. I guess it was shortened due to unexpected bridge construction.

It used to be on this site but I couldn't find it.

PM Tribro and ask him. ;-)

Maybe a new line of Trifuel gear will be ready in time for the holidays or next racing season.

Weather forecast has improved. 17 mph winds with 33 mph gusts. Total rainfall has dropped from 2-3 inches to 1 inch. Accuweather predicts rain will start in the am, but other services say it might be slowing and not reach us until the early afternoon. Some wind and rain during the run would not be such a bad thing. Keep thinking positive.

I'm hoping things will only be wet and the wind will be greatly negated by the tree cover that is pretty much available all the time on the bike course. The only dangerous areas will be the bridges - especially the one on the downhill on Rt 313 where it is easy to reach over 40 mph on the downhill. We will see what the weather forecast will look like tomorrow.

Plans A,B, and but no C

9/3 Update - We're tracking Hurricane Hanna closely but it's too soon to tell if it will make a major impact on the event. As of today, it looks like we'll have rain and some wind. We have contingency plans in place that may call for canceling the swim (if lighting or too windy), the bike (if too windy), and the entire event all together. If the swim is canceled, we'll have a run, bike, run event. If the swim and bike are canceled, we will have a run-only event. If the weather forces a total cancellation there is no rain date.

If the event is canceled, we will change the phone message on the office phone - 203.262.3376. Otherwise you should assume the event is on.

good luck folks!
