Goose Attack
not a doc but thinking maybe she pulled her groin muscle and that can take a long time to mend up. but would think someone would ahve told her that by now. sorry for her trouble and hope she mends up quick
THe reason I don't think it is a pulled groin muscle is there is no bruising or swelling really- just a lot of pain. Since she was knocked out when her bike went over she doesn't know how she landed. Her doctor wasn't too concerned but after 3 weeks to still be limping and in pain seems a long time.
She is so anxious to get back into training!
my sis pulled a muscle in the same region running and don't believe there was any swelling or bruises

web md swelling and bruising MAY occur
Muscle strainMost muscle strains (pulled muscles) are caused by overstretching muscles. Strains may be minor or severe, such as a torn muscle or tendon.
Symptoms of a muscle strain can vary depending on how severe the strain is and may include:
Pain and tenderness that is worse with movement.
Swelling and bruising.
Normal or limited muscle movement.
A bulge or deformity at the site of a complete tear.
Recovery time for a muscle strain can vary, depending on a person's age and health and the type and severity of the strain. While a minor strain often heals well with home treatment, a severe strain may require medical treatment. If a severe strain is not treated, a person may have long-term pain, limited movement, and deformity.

well I'm a amateur but I think she needs to go see a doc in the real world
I've had severe strains in my hamstring before that had no outward signs, just pain for a long time (like 2 months). Perhaps this is analogous?
I've never heard of a goose based crash scenario. It's both bizarre and unfortunate. Good luck to her with the recovery!
She was gaining time on the bike (making up for time on her weakest-swimming) when the person ahead of her tried to shoo some geese out of the road. One tried to fly away and flew into her. She was knocked down and out cold, slightly came around in the ambulance, then came around fully at the hospital. She was pretty banged up, but the most lingering pain is the groin. She is still limping and can not find relief. She has been back to work for over two weeks now. Her doctor really isn't concerned as much as I think he should be, considering she never had the area X-rayed and NOT ONE PERSON has even given her a range of motion test.
With three kids and a full time job and a husband who travels for work literally 3 out of 4 weeks a month, she always found time to train and compete and this is just awful for her.
I feel like she really needs to get to the bottom of what is going on to recover enough to ever get back in the game.
Have you brought up these concerns with her doctor? It seems like a better place to start than advice from strangers on the internet...
My thought was not to get a diagnosis, just to see if there was anyone with similar experiences out there that might shed some light on what could be wrong. My sister has seen her family physician regarding the injuries. He told her it was probably a groin pull without doing any further testing. She has tried other medical care providers, like the chiropractor and physical therapist and has no relief. Unfortunately, these days you really have to be your own advocate when it comes to finding out what is wrong. I have been searching the internet and came across this forum and thought I would give it a try, and I was pretty impressed that there have been a few people who took time out of their busy day to read and respond to my inquiry, even though they are just strangers on the internet.
Well agree that it can be helpful, but someone who can examine her can be more so. My point was not "don't ask here" but more "be sure you are asking people who can help her the most". If you are unsatisfied with what her doc is doing, it might be time to ask another doc.
The hard part is that sometimes it just takes time for that kind of thing to heal, and it will just not be super comfy or convenient while it does, and she might just have to take that time off sport for it, as hard as it can be.

when it comes to getting knocked off your bike by a goose, there might not be too many similar experiences out there.
what I and others experienced was from exertion... not from crashing (goose related or otherwise). I've had plenty of other crash injuries but nothing like this.
Sorry maybe I wasn't clear enough. My inquiry was directed to anyone with experiences of getting knocked off a bicycle while shoes are attached to pedals and ending up with pain in the groin area that turned out to be more/different than a groin pull.
I am a runner and I remember I once had pain on the side of my calves and couldn't figure out what it was. When I told another runner friend about it she suggested it was actually pain from my hip that was from overuse of a muscle that ran from the hip to the knee. There were some easy stretches I did and it really helped and did not interfere with my running.
If she had pain because she tried to train I would tell her she wasn't ready to get back into it yet, but her pain is constant.
I didnt pull my groin, or get knocked off a bike, but in my career as a zookeeper, I did experience multiple goose and crane attacks. Crazy birds. The goose was a little thing, but he could really tear into your ankles. Lots of balls for something 2 feet tall!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Lots and lots of bike riding and falling on Mtn Bikes. Really when you are clipped in and don't get unclipped there are just too many scenarios that can occur. I rode with one guy who fell and shattered his ankle.
I have fallen and torqued knees and other things with no bruising evident. Identify the area and speak with an expert. Crashes are always different to analyze than over use.

Yes that said goose attack. My sister was knocked over by a goose during a Sprint Triathlon and suffered a concussion about 3 weeks ago. She is recovered from that, but I think the emergency room didn’t really focus on any other parts of her body. She still has a lot of pain in the groin area, enough to cause limping, but no bruising or swelling. She was wearing those shoes that clip into the pedals. So far no relief from the physical therapist, chiropractor, or massage therapist. Any ideas what this injury might be?
