Ironman Canada 2008 Race Report
I like the cowbikes! :) And congrats again.
Nutrition becomes soooo important in an IM -- just think how fast you'll go once you work it out! :)
Great Race Report! Enjoyed all the pictures, graphs, ect...Congrats!

"No Pain, No Gain!" ;)
The whole time I was doing math in my head of course. Can I make 11 still? At the turnaround, it was rough mathematically. It required me to run 10 minute miles – which on any other day would be easy. But not today. Today it was like maintaining a 5 minute mile pace. Somewhere along the way though, the math started actually really working in my favor. Then it became a new game – can I make 10:49:49?
I know the feeling of how foggy doing very simple splits in your head can get. You start trying to figure, "If I hold this pace what time does that equate to? Swim plus the angle of the hypotenuse plus the bike times pi r squared . . . huh?"
Well done! And great pics, too. So that little kid was just riding around the street at the 110 mile mark? Nice. Sure the parents weren't yelling at you for hitting their precious little snowflake? S/he had no business out there. What parents bring their kid to an IM finish and lets their kid ride a bike around on the course?
Sweet! I love the photos! Congrats!!!

Great RR and YOu are an Ironman! I can hope to be like you!
ok got it... great write up! and time! Makes me want to do IM Canada!
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
Congratulations on such a strong race, especially with that bike crash thrown in there. The saying that nutrition is the 4th leg of an Ironman isn't far off, it's a great learning experience and you still turned in a great time even with all of that. Congrats again!

Love the pictures... the diagram of the kid on the bike's path is priceless, glad you survived that one!!!
HTFU - sweet. :) I'll put it in my mental vocabulary for chastising myself, right along side "suck it up, buttercup!"

Great report! You've captured that mid-IM run roller coaster brain game so well! Congrats on becoming an Ironman and in a fantastic time. Now....enjoy your recovery.
Really enjoyed the report and the way you presented it with the pictures. Great time, great race!

Congrats!! Nice Race report, and pictures!!
Nothing to it, but to do it
that was one of the best race reports I've read- love the pics, it really gave me a "feeling" of race day. Congrats on a great finish!
Thanks everyone - I appreciate the comments. I had a blast out there and more and more am looking forward to next year. Unfortunately...it appears to be addicting. :)

It is and you are normal. Really great RR and pics.
Congrats on the race, beating 11 hrs, and a great race report!
I learned of the online availability this afternoon- needless to say I checked and it was sold out (by a long shot it turned out!).
Reading your RR made me even more bummed. Looks like I'll have to volunteer if I am ever to take on IMC.
Great job!
hey, I noticed the injury pic in your RR that your legs weren't shaved...any words about that and your healing process?
Nah, no shaving for me. And no issues with the healing process on it. Most of the pain was more inside/internal to the leg. As opposed to be a rash it was more like a puncture of sorts, so just straight in without a lot of skinning.
The pain's basically all gone now - was mostly gone by the end of Thursday from it.

Here's a link to my race report. I would have loved to have pasted it here, but I suspect I would have somehow managed to break the entire site. It's umm...a bit long. But yeah - whatdya expect for the first time?
