Just wanted to follow up - thanks to everyone who posted with suggestions from my previous post.
I completed my first tri this weekend and what a sense of accomplishment! During my swim practices (1/4 mile) I could never finish in under 14 minutes - and that was in a pool. Well the adrenaline gets you going because in the lake I did it in 9 mins.
The bike was just as expected but the run was tougher - I didn't do too many brick workouts so I was kind of tired on the run.
I even placed 2nd in my age group!(47)
This was a great experience and look forward to getting faster and stronger!
This is a great forum
Thanks
for the help!

Very nice. Placing as a 47 year old is tough. Those old guys can move! (I'm 31).

Awesome job. And, honestly, awesome job on the swim. Usually the adrenaline/fear has the opposite effect on first timers in open water (myself included). Great job.

Congrads on a great finish! Open water swim will most likely always be faster then the pool.
