Boston Training
I go outside.
But if you insist on living in Boston and don't want to get out, get in touch with your cycling club for winter training sessions or options (www.tuftscycling.org) and swim in an indoor pool. Suck it up for the run and get outside if you can. You'll hate the sport after 5 months of running on the treadmill. Unless you find a hottie on the treadmill in front of you.
From the title, I thought you wanted training advice to qualify for the Boston Marathon. I don't have any, but I was curious to read the suggestions.
Gratz on finishing your first triathlon and good luck finding a group.
Hi Amish!
you could get involved in each area of the sport (join swim groups, enter running races, etc) and find like minded souls there. i did it that way as there are no clubs to be had in my area.
it doesn't get as cold here in the smoky mountains as it does for you, but there are things you can do. it's definitely a good time to improve your swim. running can be done in all weather in my opinion. the bike on the other hand brings up the windchill factor.
how'd your race go?
There are a ton of cyclist in the Boston area that ride through the winter whenever the roads aren't totally iced over.. popular routes are for a short day, go around and around Mystic Lake. For longer days, take 2A out to Concord and there are a bazillion loops that you can do from there. I don't really remember specifics from my time there, but I'm sure there are plenty at mapmyride.com

Current marathon PR? BQ time? Do you have a 2 mile run TT time?

Thanks everyone for the replies. I think I will check out the cycling teams, and look for some opportunities surrounding the school. I was also wondering if there are any ideas on when races start back up again? living in boston, i'm sure the weather won't be suitable for a race until late march or early april(if there are any then anyway), I was wondering if there were any races within driving distance... (hopefully less than 6 hours away or so), and when they start happening, because I am now*** addicted to the sport, and am looking for tons of opportunities for next year. The past race was a week ago: 350m swim,12mile bike, and 5k run and I finished in an 1:15:15, and I really want to improve, so I think my next race (another sprint: 400m swim, 10mile bike, 5k run) is going to be september 21st in MA. Do you think that's too early following the sprint I just did?
thanks for all the help guys, it is all really appreciated.
I think you'll be fine in a month for another sprint go. Those races are relatively short, so you can recover pretty quickly.
Also, there are probably more races than you think, but to look for races of all distances available goto www.trifind.com and search your area, they give you month by month lists of upcoming races. If they haven't posted 2009 yet, most races in 2008 will take place on the same weekend the following year (so 1 day earlier on the date is a good estimate).
also, www.trimapper.com is good for visualizing the distances to different races. You can find a lot of info and links to race websites from both aforementioned sites
Amish-
I live in boston and I train alone; just like it that way. I know a few people on the Boston Tri team, there are about 5 different tri teams around here bro, Team Psycho and a few others but Boston Tri is the largest obviously but I heard they do Friday morning 6 am swims and sunday morning 6am runs. and since I am recently single that just doesn't work for me...lol

Hello all,
I am a Tufts University Student, and I just completed my first Triathlon. Naturally, I am not addicted to the sport and am trying to find outlets to train and improve. Are there any triathlon training groups in Boston? if I can't find a group, how do many of you train in the winter months when even the thought of going outside makes you shudder? Anyway, happy racing,
Amish
