I was just about to buy a tribike, but some arguments (thread here) made me change my mind and now i'm looking for a road bike instead.
I want to ask you about Soloist Team performance, specially on an IM (i'll be doing my first IM in november 2009). The thing is i can't afford two bikes, so i guess the best way is to go with a good road bike that can be used either in a sprint/oly triathlon, or in an HIM or HIM.
What do you think?

I'm using a roadie with a ITU setup (shorty aero bars) and it's been great. I've done several sprints and olys with it, and one HIM. I'm doing my first IM next summer, and you can bet I'll be rolling on my roadie fo schow.
dumb question - wht ironman?
dumb question - wht ironman? is it hilly or flat? that might determine if you'll be in the aerobars a lot or little.

I'm with jhudalla on this: I'm getting a new bike and I'm switching over to a road bike. I train with a road group and one day a year I race an IM, so why am I riding a tri bike? I think it boils down to with whom you train (road group, tri group, or solo) and how much time out a 5-7 hour bike you will be on the aero bars.
At some point down the road
At some point down the road I'll prolly drop some bux on a tri-bike but that won't happen until I'm breaking 5hrs in a HIM or getting sub 2:10 at an Olympic. In other words... I have some work to do.

+1. Also WHERE you train as well. I just recently took the aerobars off my road bike because around my house is all hills and my race venues are rarely flat. Without bar end shifters, I really wasn't able to spend much time in the aero position.

+1. This is what I've adopted as well. Until a tri bike is going to be the difference between a podium and non-podium finish in your AG, just work on getting faster with the current bike. Going from 15th to 12th in AG just isn't worth the investment.
I think you'll be just fine on a road bike, especially one like the Cervelo Soloist.

Cozumel, i've heard it's pretty flat.

I've got the Soloist team - There are few "do everything bikes" - This is one. Love it. I have used it for training and racing in IM Canada and Vineman 70.3. Flippable seat post will get you to 75 to 76 degrees depending on your saddle location. I have T2+ aerobars clpons - work great. Very versatile bike. Best thing, won't break the bank and you can still get the tri bike at another date or go for the Chrissy Wellington modifcation - P2C with drop bars.
Road bike...three IM's so
Road bike...three IM's so far and all on road bikes...sort of. Used a Cervy Duel one year with road bar set up...
I'd only own a pure tri bike if I lived in a flat area...
I've done IMC four times on
I've done IMC four times on two different road bikes - a Bianchi and a Cramerotti.
Sunday will be my first IM with a genuine Tri-bike: a Cervélo P2Sl.
I am very happy about it and am looking forward to a great race, rain or shine.
btw, there are a few hills. :D

Well, i'm now pretty sure that a road bike is the way to go (hopefully, for me, Cervelo). Thank you all for your comments!
