I've had some problems with nutrition and am curious about trying a supplement like saltstick. I'm hoping it will lead to a breakthrough being able to digest gu and gel. Just concerned about too much. Does any one out there use saltstick or the like for day-to-day training and for race days? Training is only about an hour a day so I understand electrolyte replacement isn't critical for day-to-day but I've read "if you haven't done it in training don't do it on race day".

THANKS!

I'd say to give it a whirl on a long weekend ride/run. I've been using enduralytes on my 3+ hr training ride/runs and they really help prevent the cramping. I've also used it in 1 marathon so far and it was a PR. Was it because of the enduralytes, probly not, but they didn't hurt me and I was able to keep going the entire time.

Supplementation is the biggest hill you will encounter. Master that, and you're good to go.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.

Using an electrolyte product is not going to help you digest gel products, it will replenish your electrolytes though. If you're having problems digesting gel products, you should try other gel products or switch to a different form of nutrition. You can train with an electrolyte product, even for an hour, to get used to the using it. And you definitely want to do that with the Salt Stick since the dispenser is something you have to practice using while riding.

A salt lick?!?

What are you? A cow?

heh.

Actually, I take a handful of those little salt packets you get at KFC or McDs with me.
I had some quad cramping last year at about 120k - just before the out and back.
I opened 3 or 4 packets, poured the salt onto my tongue and sucked it back with a big gulp of water. A few minutes later I was good to go.
No indigestion, just relief. Maybe I was lucky but I've done it before without problems.
