I'll be heading down from Maine to Louisville next week. This is my first tri that I will travel to (fly and stay over night). Any suggestions/hints for food preparation in a hotel room. Should I bust out the coleman camping grill to fire off my buckwheat pancakes??? Also, what the heck do I put in my transitions bags, and what about my support bags?? It is crunch time and I'm freaking out, tapering doesn't help either. Thanks

I'll send you a private email with my checklist as an attachment that I used last year at IM UK. It was created from lists I've read here and is a good starting point. Change as needed.

I'll be at Louisville too. Good luck.

Mike

Eat what you normally eat. I usually get a room with a refrigerator and a microwave. I get ftuit, peanut butter, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, milk, etc. I try to stay with my regular routine... coffee in the morning with some cereal or fruit or oatmeal or whatever. I wind up eating out at lunch and dinner but try to keep it reasonably healthy.

You get two transition bags, one for swim-bike, one for bike-run. Put your bike gear in one, your run gear in the other.

You get two special needs bags, one for stuff you might want on the bike... nutrition items, extra tubes, extra co2, teddy bear, pictures of your mom, pictures of my mom, pop tarts, snickers bar... whatever you may want. In the run bag you can put similar items and things that are specific to running. An item I just thought of... duct tape... for blisters.

Something to consider... you won't get these bags back unless you hunt for them so don't stick anything in there you don't want to lose.

There are a couple small stores near the IM area in Kentucky. We found bagels and PB there, and I think some cereal and such, and just kept it in our room.

Last year at IMKY they specified that they were special foods bags -- and that they only wanted foods in them. No tubes, no CO2, no clothing -- just foods. I believe it is the same this year.

Best adivce given to me before my 1st Ironman this year, "STAY POSITIVE". You have done the training, be confident that you will do well. It is a long day but, looking back I would say 95% of my race exeprience was AMAZING!

As for a list, I pulled this list off of Trifuel and somewhat adjusted the contents (I think the original author was a female...I am not).

I had my bike professionally packed and packed it myself on the way back from Brazil. I should have taken more precautions because the wheel hub rubbed off some paint off of my bike. Looking back, I would pack extra bubble wrap to protect the bike on the way back. I also heard, pipe insulation works well.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A BLAST!

Great lists...to which I can only add:
Patience.
Flexibility.
Joy. Wonder.
...and a sense of humor.
Have a great time and let us know how it goes.
