Thanks! I will look into them :)
Recommend you also try www.bikeforums.net, specifically, the Norcal forum. There are several tandem riders there who may have some help for you. I live in San Rafael, but sadly, don't ride a tandem. Good luck.
Thanks for the help! Turns out we found one for a good price on craigslist in the area, and my mom lives there and so is going to pick it up for us :) So we will be proud tandem owners! And um... small world... I think it is my 6th grade science teacher selling it!
Well it comes with 2 sets of wheels and 2 seats and 2 sets of handle bars...
But it will probably live in the garage once it even makes it down to southern CA (we might leave it in northern for a while) -- it will be safe and protected there.
can you put a platform on it for gracie to ride on?
Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left
Congrats!!
Just remember the golden rule of tandem cycling-Front person is not allowed to have beans!!
Nothing to it, but to do it
We did talk about that little girl... but she doesn't sit still too well so no trailer for her! She'll just have to stick to mtn biking and running and hiking with us :)
Hahaha we already had that beans talk too Scott!

Cool! Congrats on the tandem, they're so much fun. You know what they say about tandems, you'll either have a stronger marriage because of one, or you'll never talk to each other again!
Hubby and I really have fun riding our tandem together, it's a hoot. So enjoy your new ride, and of course the wedding as well!

Thanks Ironmom! I doubt we'll always be on it, but we got a great deal and we can see what we think of it. Our whole wedding "theme" if you will is cycling/tandem bike stuff. Being that our bike guy introduced us it is fitting. And him being a stronger biker will mean that we can actually ride more "together" than on separate bikes. I can totally see us using it as our "fun" or "family" cycling time and trips. Let's just hope he's handling isn't too scary for me! :)

I thought it was important information that should be shared ;-)

What an awesome wedding theme, does your LBS do a registry?
The best thing about the tandem that we've discovered is that you can so easily talk and hear each other. No riding up beside to chat and risking traffic, or staying single file and yelling "What?" every few seconds. Our tandems are built for touring, not speed, but someday I would love to buy a more racing-oriented tandem too, you can really get moving fast.
They're great for riding with the kids too because you can go at a relatively normal speed, instead of kid speed.

We are not doing any registry -- we are old enough that we have all the 'stuff' we could want. Instead we have asked family and friends to donate to our "we want to buy a house and go on a cool vacation" fund, and bring a picture of them and us. It's a small wedding, and hopefully they all understand. And if not, well, it's my wedding and I don't want a bunch of stuff so just give me a hug :) There are definitely some non-traditional parts to our wedding, but we love each part of it and that is what is important to us.
Mike often mocks my lack of hearing on the bike... so that will be a good thing! This one is more of a touring tandem. And hopefully someday we'll have the need for a trail-a-bike to make it a triple like you have done!
Here is basically the image we used for invites, RSVP cards, and our wedding favor: water bottles! Sometimes it uses just the new last name, and sometimes it uses our separate ones.
Oh my gosh I'm getting so excited :)
Lucky lucky lucky! :-)

Thanks all :) We wanted to have a wedding that was very us -- so the way we communicated the feeling to the caterer, flower person, etc was that we want the ceremony to feel very wedding, but the party to feel like a BBQ and that we are just dressed up at it :)

For our wedding Mike and I need a tandem on Sept 6th in San Rafael. We are not having good luck with bike shops in the area and getting a tandem to our location (we won't have a car that can fit one). Any one have one they'd be able to lend us? We'd pay for it and gas and whatever!
Thanks!
