Half IM 2 weeks before Full IM??
Na, no biggie. Just start taper after it and do short but fast once you have recovered from the 1/2. Here are some pro taper tips:

oooh.... have you don't this before? seems rather close for a solid IM. I did a half marathon 2 weeks prior to a HIM this spring... and that in retrospect was a mistake. Is this IM you A-race of the year or are you just looking to bag another one?

Weary is the path that does not challenge.
My last IM (Lake Placid 2006) I did an Olympic race about 4 weeks out and then my normal program the remainder - Did LP in 11:42. This time I am actually racing in Kona (Got in via lottery, not due to my exceptional speed!). So it is an A race, but with that said, I am just looking to have fun, feel good for as much of the race as I can, and enjoy the race! I do want to perform well too of course (12 hours would be nice!), but not going to try and crush the race.....

You should probably hold back on the HIM if you're gonna do it two weeks before the full. If you race it solidly you will have an extended recovery time afterward. I did a HIM on Sunday, really pushed it, and I am still very sore three days later.
It comes down to which is more important: One last good workout or the IM? Trust your training and don't throw in a half just to get in the miles.
A HIM 2 weeks prior to an IM will in no way help your IM performance and may hamper it.
For me 2 weeks out from IM is a race rehearsal - Doing the full 112 on the bike at race pace and then a 6 mile run again at the IM run pace - which especially at the start is a very easy pace.
This is the final time to dial in nutrition/hydration/pacing/gear etc.
Racing a HIM will have a high recovery cost.
If doing it at an IM race pace - then it is too short - for the bike anyways.
Assuming the IM is the 'A' race I would skip the HIM.

Super +1 to RV. Nothing you do in the three weeks prior to an IM will help your fitness.
Could be a mistake. Even if you promise to go "easy," your are depleting resources.
Depends on how important the IM is. Lots could happen at the HIM. Crash, injury....any number of things, including possible recovery problems...viola! Trashed IM.
If the iM was really important to me...I wouldn't.

Super duper +1 to Anton (and by extension super +2 to RV)
If the focus of your year is the full, pass on the half.
Thanks all - passing. My buddy was trying to get me to do it with him...my gut said no, and you all helped confirm....thanks guys! Enjoy!

macker- best of luck in Kona!
I hope it is everything you want it to be.
RV's statements made a lot of sense to me as well.
I guess that makes me +3 to RV.
If IM is your 'A' Race don't risk it
'Nuff said
Nothing to it, but to do it

As the subject suggests, what do you think about a Half IM 2 weeks out from my Full IM? One last long Brick that has aid stations etc sounds good - but will I let the race get the best of me and go too hard? Would love your thoughts...thanks - macker
