I have been it triathlons now for about 3 years now and am getting pretty decent. I also have been riding with a team (jeep) and they have asked me to join their team. My ride is an old 89(i think) specialized allez with some newer parts such as shifter and such. Being young, my buget isn't the biggest 2,500 tops but I would like to upgrade either to a tri bike and keep my other bike for a training and racing for the team, or sell the old one and buy the cervelo team.

Has anyone had any experience with the soloist as a tri, and traing, and road racing bike?? What should I do.

Also, if you had to recomend a wheelset for training and racing what would you pick, 650 tops. plus a disk cover

I have had the cervelo soloist team for 4 months now and am really liking it. I bought it because I wanted just one bike for two purposes (tris and group riding). This is really a great bike for the money I believe and is super fast. It worked fine for me in the one tri I have completed so far, and would be a great road racing bike as well. I just added some aero bars and a cushier seat, and I seam to be able to get into a pretty good tri position. (I am just under 6'3" by the way and I am on a size 58)

I think that it is pretty well known that this bike has tires that are perceived as heavy and very upgradable. So use the stock tires for training and get some nice wheels for racing if you feel like it. I am using the stock tires for everything, being a newb and all. Good luck with your purchases!

The Soloist Team is a nice bike and at a great price. I was considering buying one as well. If you're buying an '08, I hear there are deals to be made right now.

I was in a similar position this year and ended up going with a Felt B12 from my old specialized allez. It was either the B12 or a P2C. Heres a nice article for your price range:

Hope this helps

I have the '08 soloist team.. It is surprisingly easy to convert from road to tri configurations and works well for both. Now that I have it set up in aero, I haven't switched it back, but I know its a cinch. I'm still on the stock wheels, but I'm ready to get something else for next season. If you can get a good deal on one at a LBS you really can't go wrong with it I think. Also the aluminum really doesn't beat the crap out of you like other bikes either. Great bike! I'm heading in for a refit at bikesport next week, can't wait!

I am interested to read these comments about the Soloist Team as its one of the bikes I am considering when I upgrade shortly. A question for you guys who currently own a Soloist team; how much of your riding on the soloist is done in the road bike configuration vs. Tri/TT bike?

i love my soloist and would highly recommend it.

I only ride it in the TT position. even if i am in a group ride i'll keep the seat post 'upright' and just pull off the aero bars.

At 2500 bucks. you almost have to go P2C, the best deal in terms of bang for the buck out there (at least at the 08 prices. The rumor is the 09s are going up anywhere from 15 -40 percent, according to my shop). I'd look at the Felt too, but if you fit on a P2C, well.
