start 'em young!
nice form! hope he had fun
Great- Did he want to do it again afterwards?
how CUTE is that?!!
By the look on his face you can tell he's really digging deep to gut out that run. Way to go!
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
That is awesome!! I have taken my daughters to a few kids races and they have a blast.
They get to enjoy the rush of doing something athletic like mom and dad.
Nothing to it, but to do it
Nice shot. My kids have done 2 now and they are 6 and 4.They did their first last year at 5 and 3. I agree, start them young but make it fun. They love going to the lake every friday for the tri team group swim. They don't have any interest in playing youth soccer, baseball, etc as they have been going to tri's there entire life. They'd rather swim or bike which is fine by us as my wife and i both love to swim and bike. My 6 year old now loves doing flips in our pool so maybe she can make the 2020 olympics. A dad can dream right.
Great pics of Evan! I expect to see him in Kona in 10 years or so.
Evan was one of three 3y.o.'s in the race. My wife and I were stereotypically fretting over him, worried that he understood where he was supporsed to go. He actually looked spent in the splash part, and I was worried he might not make it. He got to transition and wanted to have a shotblok and hang out...we pointed him in the direction of the bike course. He rolled with his training wheels...not so aero. He was huffing to start the run, but he rocked it! And he has no idea he was 4th from last... :) We were a lot more proud than I think he knows!
I think he'll be excited for his next, but not necessarily this weekend! :)
(it's up to him)

I can't pass up an opportunity to share pictures of kids.

I think he was most proud of getting a number written on his leg.
Awesome. There are so many cute things going on in that pic! His face is so focussed like he is looking at the clock to get it in under . . . 20 minutes? Or maybe he's just distracted by a bird.
Also, there is a Nike Kids triathlon on August 17th if you are interested. Its held on the Nike Campus in Beaverton. Let me know if you are interested and I can forward the registration form.
His number is almost too big for him, like a drag chute.
Were there really 1100 tykes in that race?
Nice job.

Send it to me too. Thanks
Awwww! How cute!
My 4.5 yo daughter will say to us, "I'm going to do triathlon!" and then will take off running.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
Nothing like a typo in size 300 font!
Very cute pictures though, I am sure you are all very proud!!
Love it, the expression is priceless!
Here's my little gal in one of her triathlons:

She just did her first swim meet this week too. She's only been on the swim team a week, and she did some really cute stuff, like a flip turn in the 50m breaststroke and a breaststroke kick with the butterfly, she hasn't even learned all the strokes yet!. It was so much fun to watch her though! And she kicked booty in the backstroke.

Gret Pic Ironman... She is adorable.
Ok i finally figured out how to resize the pics to fit. As you can see it's all about the hardware for my boy. And i wish i looked as good as my daughter after finishing the run in a tri.
Awesome, it looks like you all had a lot of fun. After seeing all of the pics and hearing you all recount race day I'm pretty sure my kids are going to be triathletes a whole lot earlier than I started. Just have to have a couple first (We're not quite ready yet.) :)

too cute! I love the way your son is looking at his medal- that's how I look at mine for days afterwards...and I love his Where the Wild things are shirt too :)
calilargeguy--
I dig your sons jersey. I wish they made cool ones like that for adults.
Absolutely love it...my kids will be doing that someday! (whenever I have any...)

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. Ya, I wish I could smile like that after the race every time.
The where the wild things jersey is a little too big for him, he will get at least 2 years out of it, but i had to buy it. It is so appropriate to him, and me for that matter. They might have it in adult size, check primal wear as i think that's where i ordered.
These are all great pics! I can't wait till my guy is old enough to race. Right now he is still a little shaky with walking and his legs are not long enough to reach the pedals on his tricycle.... but soon :-)

he'll be running laps in the house soon enough...get out your cow bell and cheer!
ironmom & calilargeguy, very cute! they look jazzed with their medals!

It does make you think about why we do what we do in our own tri's. The last kids tri i was at had a jump house, a rock wall, a jamba juice vendor, cotton candy, face painting, and free hotdogs and popcorn for the kids. If all tri's were like this the sport would be way more popular. Seeing the pics of all the kids on this thread is great. The thing they all have in common is they look like they are loving it. That's awesome. I saw a mother screaming at her son because he wasn't getting on his bike fast enough in transition. I couldn't believe it. The kid was maybe 9 and looked miserable. Sad that she was ruining what should have been a fun new experience for him. I was working the in/out line and i told him to just have fun. The mother was pissed as she realized I was making a silent comment about her.
Keep the pics of happy smiling kids coming.
Very cool indeed. My 5 year old is all over me to do his first one and I look forward to posting the same tye of race report soon! Awesome post.
To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!
