I need to ship my bike to a race, but I don't want to do it myself. I know there are services out there but not sure how you'd sign-up or utilize them. Do certain shops/services ship to specific races? - Thanks

Yes. Try Bike Sherpa or Tri Bike Transport. I talked to the owner of sherpa at IMFL (he gave me a TShirt) and he thought the events served were different.

Either way, it's only major domestic events that are served.

The service companies only service certain races and only from certain states/locations. They contract with bike shops to be the drop-off and pick-up point. Check the two companies that Leory mentioned.

I've used TriBikeTransport.com to take my bike from Dallas to CDA. I had a great experience. The only downside (and this is minor) is that they need your bike days in advance. I don't recall how many, so don't quote me, but it was a considerable amount of time to drive the bikes up there. The other downside (and this may be fixed) is post-race when you have to drop your bike off: There was a long line (maybe :30?). Then again, after IM five minutes may have felt like :30. To remedy this, give your bike claim ticket to your sherpa and have them pick it up while you are on the run and drop it off at TriBikeTransport.

will they let a non-athlete into the TA to do this?

to your sherpa, what the heck? i've done 3 races without one... i'd almost rather bring a masseuse.

the races i've seen bike sherpa and tri bike transport at they have had their tent outside of the transition area. now if your sherpa picks up the bike, you will have to meet them to bring it into the transition area
