Do epsom salt baths work?
From what I understand, epsom salt baths really serve no (exterior) purpose other than to literally make you more buoyant in the water. This can help alleviate swollen or tender muscle pains by taking some pressure off of those muscles - sort of like rehab water exercises - but much less strenuous. I've also heard that magnesium sulphate plays some role in reducing swelling/pain relief but I think this is the hype you were referring to.
I find a bath with epsom salt helpful simply because it helps my muscles relax - this may not be any doing of the epsom salt however.
On a related note, I should add that you definitely mustn't underestimate epsom salts as a "pipe cleaner." This I can assure you, is not a matter of hype - it will wreck you.
I've been taking epsom baths for a long. My muscles always feel better w/a 20 minute soak after a hard workout. What's really good is an ice bath followed up by a warm epsom bath. ...but I only do that when my muscles are screaming at me, they yell loudly.
I have taken an epsom salt bath once in awhile and I do feel better.
Nothing to it, but to do it
I had a PA advise me to do epsom salt baths to relieve saddle sores a few years ago. It seemed to help a bit, but whether this was due to the salts, the bath, or just a placebo effect is open to question.
Then again, a giant bag costs what, $.99? You don't have much to lose. It can also be used as plant fertilizer and an enema. Awesome!

Works inside and out ;-)

Epsom salt is actually been used for a very long time already. people use it to help relieve muscle aches and stress. They usually use Epsom salts through soaking in bath salts. These salts help reduce inflammation and is antiseptic.

I recently pulled a back muscle swimming in really cold water without warming up. I was by a friend to take an epsom salt bath, but before I do it, I want to make sure the stuff works. So, do they work? I've read a few articles online, seems like a bunch of hype.
