I'm getting ready to buy new a new tubular wheel set, going 808 404 combo, and wondered what type of tires any one runs?

I've used Tufo, Vittoria and Continental. They all have their good points and not so good points. I won't say bad, because I've had good experiences with them all.
I only race long stuff on Conti Competition. It's just a great tire and durable. They've been good Ju-Ju for me.
I like Tufo, but they seem to wear quick for me, even though I'm not a big lad.
Used Vittoria off and on for almost 30 years...good quality and workmanship, but just not as good as the Conti's, in my opinion.
Good job on moving up to sew ups. You will notice a much smoother and faster ride, but that's bikie bias!

Ok, that's odd...I've noticed some quirky things the last two days...

Made by Vittoria. Good tires.

To the OP, basically any high end tire is going to be good (i.e., don't skimp and get a training tubular because it's half the price). Most aero wheels are designed to be fastest with an 18-19mm tire like a Conti Podium, but Zipps are designed for 21mm tires (basically everything else).

I ride schwalbe ultremo and have found them to be top of the line. Do a quick search on the web and you should get some interesting results. Many of the other brands mentioned are also excellent.

Good luck with whatever tire you pick!

I've been riding tufos all season and haven't seen any problem with them. 21mm Giro twix on my training wheels for wet weather rides. Great puncture resistance and wonderfully smooth roll. 23 mm elite road on my front aeolus, as that's the size the rim was designed for; has been working just fine. I have a Tangente on my zipp disc, and though it feels fast and smooth, it doesn't hold air properly. Of course I discover this problem in a half. Started at 135 psi and finished at 90. Before the race I'd only put 5 miles on the wheel/tire and all was well. I'll be swapping it out for something else before my next race of any distance. I haven't needed to re-inflate my race wheels in the past 2 months.
