Pre Race/lsd training ~ Evening Meal
before a race its a whole lot of pizza followed by some kind of cake, preferably the bday kind!!
before a long workout itll be some pasta and chicken or rice or a few bowls of cereal...nothing too specific
Generally pasta with some sort of salmon or small steak. Race/lsd morning I'll usually have a bagel caked in PB and wash it down w/ a big-dogg redbull. After than I could run over a mountain!
That's pretty much every friday night/sat morning. Other than that I usually try to keep it under control 2000 - 2500 calories/day and sipping on accelerade during the training.
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
most of the time pasta the night before... the morning of I have homemade wheat pancakes with peanut butter and honey. I think I am going to make some of those right now! I am always hungry:)
Wow that is some interesting choices. Whatever works.
Night before IM - nothing solid - I switch to liquid calories by about 3pm - Ensure Plus (each bottle is 350 cal) and Infinit. Have a couple more Ensures at about 2am and again 2 more at 5-6am. Then some Infinit while in transition doing any final prep. Then 30 min before race - a gel and water.

Pasta two nights before, the day before light carbs that break down easily during the race.
Mox
Night before a race I will have a lot of pasta (usually bolognese), bread, decaf coffee, and gatorade. I stay away from cheese just in case.
When I first started running I used to do pasta the night before a long training day too, but it's not as necessary anymore. I can have a "regular" meal the night before a 20-miler and not have any problems as long as I behave with my nutrition during my workout. I also used to stay away from cereal & milk the morning of, but I don't avoid that anymore either for some reason.
i try to "load" 2 days before with a monster dinner usually consisting of pasta and meatballs. i dont want to have all that crap, no pun intended, jostling around in my stomach all race. the morning before the race ill have a pretty massive breakfast and then eat lightly all day. i heard tim deboom give a presentation on nutrition at Boston this year and he said he likes to have a massive breakfast the day before an IM and then snack all day. yes. i copied him.
post race= ice cream and more ice cream
Very very interesting post!
Trifuelers really have strong digestive tracts and a very effective digestion.
During the years I have really struggled with my GI tract because I have reflux disease and also takes me long to digest my food.
I start loading my body with carbs before a race, or a climbing expedition at least 2 days before(if the climb is longer than 3 days, I might carbo load for 4 days at least). I love to have for breakfast a nice stack of wheat pancakes, with some fruit, and things like that. Also pizza, lasagna, ravioli or any kind of pasta, does it for me, lots of it!
I do that until noon of the day before, then I switch to semi solids, try to stay away from dairy, and fiber. Ensure, Sustagen or any of those liquid filled cans are of a great help. Lost of gatorade too.
The day of the event or assault (if I am climbing) bagels, donuts, some oatmeal with fruit, tea and gatorade are my usual regimen, and I banned myself completely from dairy.
For a long training day, like a long ride or a long run, the night before I try to have pasta of pizza in moderate amount. The morning before going out, usually oatmeal with a banana and gatorade.
After the event or returning from the mountain, steaks, pizza, burgers...whatever I can put my hands on, that is my post event ritual....I am usually tremendously hungry afterwards ;-)....

I know :( when I race HIM I usually take 2-3 of those damn Zantax. And oatmeal and those multi-grain tortilla's are my fiber resolution. I don't do pills/caps or drinks for fiber..I'll use any excuse to eat.

Just wondering what everyone likes to feast/fuel up on before a race or long training.
My favorite is sockeye salmon with multi-grain pasta and pesto...followed up by one badass chocolate dessert. I have to eat to the point of being uncomfortable or I just don't have enough energy the next day (HIM).
Now if it's just going to be a long training day like a century ride or 20 mile run, well then it's a whole lot of pizza, hands down. Any kind really but it must have jalepenos.
Did I mention I <3 food?
