Hi Everyone,Hi Everyone,
I'm currently riding a Giant OCR3 with the standard components. I'm thinking of purchasing a tri bike frame. What I would like to do is use as many of my road bike parts for now and upgrade them later. I know the handle bars, shifters, and break levels cannot be swapped. What other parts would not be compatible? Does anyone else have any experience doing something like this?

Thanks in advance!

Henry

Seatpost may not be compatible depending on the type of tri frame you get. Some bikes also have custom brake mounts that are not compatible with all brake designs.

+1 Some aero downtubes take custom seatposts, but when the frame is shaped like that, they usually come with integrated seatposts; yes, some frames have custom brake mounts, but not many; bottom bracket (English or Italian); fork may be integrated so you won't need a headset; front derailleur may be braze vs. clamp. That's all I can think of.

Which tri frame are you considering? Just curious.

I agree with what everyone else has said so far, but would like to add that you could use your existing handlebars, shifters, etc., until you upgrade to a TT cockpit.
