Stationary Swimming
If you have a small seasonal pool you can do a tether system with about $50 in PVC pipe, rope and a harness.
Nothing to it, but to do it

I have tried the rope version, but it is terribly jerky and uncomfortable, you need a stretchy kind of cord. I am using the Kiefer Swim-In-Place Laner Trainer and like it.

I think I'd go with the riptide from what you posted above. I don't like the idea of something around the waste but I guess if you're only going to be doing freestyle then it'd be ok. Swimmer52's Keifer looks alright and cheap if you have lane lines or a narrow enough pool. Good luck with whatever you get and let us know how it turns out.

Has anybody used any type of stationary swimming device? Here are some of the ones that I have found:

I am looking for something for my home and do not want to spend the $10,000 to $20,000 for one of the swim spas.
