Welcome sandy toes! Congrats on your 5th IM way to go! You'll find trifuel is full of tri addicts and it looks like you'll fit right in! As for SM or MM, I'd recommend the silverman race for sure. I recently moved from NV to MN for reason I do not yet fully understand... at anyrate, while I lived in NV I got out and rode the bike leg almost every single weekend. If you're looking for something that's the opposite of boring... this is it. Amazing scenery, great climbs, lake mead is clear as can be, and the race organization ( I volunteered last year ) is yet to be topped by any race I've done.
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
Advice from a Miamian:
I have done Miami Man twice. Miami has a lot of spectacular triathlon venues in the ocean on South Beach, Key Biscayne, downtown, etc. MiamiMan is NOT one of those beautifull venues. It's out in the western suburbs with the swim in a park lake, the bike through featureless farmland, and the run through the zoo. It IS however a very fast course. But boring.
If you want beatifull try the "Escape To Miami" (http://www.escapetomiamitriathlon.com/) October 5th. You get ferried out to an empty island in the bay and swim back to downtown then bike a couple of laps across the causeway connecting the mainland to Miami Beach.
Or do the new "Miami International Triathlon" (http://www.mitriathlon.com/) in March. On the causeway on Biscayne Bay. This year was its inaugural year and it drew all the national and international pros including Matt Reed.
But both of these I'm recommending are Olympic, not Half Irons.
Do Silverman!! I'll see you out there. This will be my third iron distance race but first time at Silverman. The desert is absolutely beautiful and from what I've heard the race and volunteers are amazing!
Welcome Sandy Toes.
I have heard they are both great races in there own ways.
I would go for the Silverman but that just me.
BTW if you are independantly wealthy and need a training partner and personal assistant I am available. My wife and kids will understand ;-)
Nothing to it, but to do it
Do Silverman!!! I'll be there.
Sandy Toes wrote:I'm not going to be nice because it is obvious you suck. :) You live in the Caymans and if you've finished five IMs you clearly are independently wealthy, have copious time to train and travel while I live in America's hot, sweaty armpit (north Texas) and work in a cube and fight traffic all day. I’m sure you’re smokin’ hot and you make great coffee. But seriously, I'm jealous. Go to Vegas. You are obviously very lucky and you may hit the jackpot.. . . living in the sunny Cayman Islands, I just completed my 5th IM in Lake Placid
ha ha - not to disappoint you all (and BTW thanks to all those that offered to be my personal assistant!), but (unfortunately for me) I still have to work for a living (although in a year-round sunny locale where I can swim in the sea outside my front door and have a 5min commute to work... but I digress :) - on the flip side, I am very unlucky, I've never won anything in my life except for a stuffed toy bunny in grade 2 - there does that make up for my CI life somehow!!
it looks like Silverman wins this one! the course truly looks spectacular and flights are reasonable, I might just go for it (hope my so can get the time off work)!

Hi all!
I'm new to this forum, so please be gentle :) A bit about myself: I'm a Canadian girl living in the sunny Cayman Islands, I just completed my 5th IM in Lake Placid. Nice to "meet" you all!
Although I'm still sore from Placid, I'm already looking for an end-of-season goal. I came up with Silverman or Miami man as a late season 1/2IM. MM is obviously much more convenient for me but I'm afraid the course is really boring (flat bike and running through a zoo!?) while Silverman looks like a spectacular course but it's much farther to travel (I'd do it if it was worth it though). So, any thoughts or opinions?
Thanks!!
