Well, it took over 4 years, but my name was finally called at an awards ceremony. Thank goodness for AG podiums that go 4 deep! ;)

I was at the end of a recovery week and my training plan had a short brick on it. So I signed up to do the Castle Rock sprint tri in Adams Co., Wisconsin on Saturday. It's a very low-key race with about 400 participants and tons of friendly volunteers. The swim was short but choppy, bike was very flat and fast, and the run had some small yet challenging hills that finished with about 3/4 of a mile on a hilly sand trail through some pine woods. I ended up getting 4th out of 19 in my AG, 20th male, 20th OA. Swim was 6th in my AG, bike was 1st, and run was also 6th. There is still plenty of room to improve on the run, and at a bigger event I would certainly have finished farther back in the field, but I'll admit that it was just nice to see some tangible evidence of work paying off after starting as a BOP guy.

On Sunday, my wife raced and I volunteered at the Tri-ing for Children's Sprint in Ottawa, WI. I worked as a "swim buddy" at the race and did a couple laps of the swim course next to a some new triathletes doing their first open water races. It was very fun just easily swimming along, encouraging my "buddies," and dodging the faster swimmers who were all business out on the course. I can't comment on the rest of the course, but the lake was beautiful. After the last wave of swimmers was done, I changed and went to watch the end of the run.

Mrs. PJT ended up taking 1st in her AG, 5th female overall (out of 188). She has always been the relatively better athlete of the two of us, but had been just *this* close to the podium in a number of races over the past few years. I was super happy for her.

After a nap and a bike ride on Sunday afternoon, we had a sushi dinner to celebrate a good weekend. IM training resumed in earnest this morning.

Great jobs by the PJT's!

You'll have to open up space on the mantle for more trophies!

I was tempted to do the race there in Ottawa - as I live only 3 miles away... But stayed on the IM training plan - forgot that it was Sunday until I was finishing up my ride and came biking up to the park and there were runners and cars everywhere.

Hey, I was at Castle Rock, too! 2nd in my AG. But I was a little sidetracked by the nasty fuzzy green stuff that literally grew in my top after the race (in the time between the race and my washing machine). Yuck! That water was a funky color.

And hey, congrats to you and your wife on your great races!

Yeah, Castle Rock Lake often gets an algae bloom in late June through the summer. At least the years I have been going there it is harmless, but the green coating definitely can end up inside your swimsuit.

Congrats on your 2nd place finish too!
