What race/distance are you doing on Oct 4th? If it is a sprint, and you are doing it yourself, vs. in a relay, you'll be running a 5K for the run portion.

Are you wondering how to focus your workouts for the 5K only after you've finished training for the triathlon? As far as timing goes, I think you have plenty of time for both events. What are your goals for each? If you are hoping to compete and finish without injury you have plenty of time to train properly. If you are hoping to compete and finish in a certain time, that depends on your current level of fitness and the number of hours you have to train between now and October.

Good luck in your training. I hope both events go well.

finish at a steady pace w/ each...and its a sprint tri, so the run will be a 5k, but i want to have a decent time on both. i guess i'll look at my AG on both, and compare my time w/ them.

That's plenty of time to rest for a 5K... hammer it out. :)

+1. You'll be fine.

I thought you were talking about strategy during the race and not training when I read the title.

I was just going to say...go faster until it hurts, then breathe deep and go a little faster. It will be over before you know it.

you might do some hills or intervals on a track or half mile intervals or mile intervals to develop muscles that will speed up that 5k time.
