Does anyone drink Ultima?

Someone told me to try this because I've found that gatorage, poweraid and some other drink that you can buy easily in a store to be way to sweet. So I cut them water but was then told I was diluting them too much.

Back to my point though--I loved the taste of Ultima-it had the perfect sweetness (or lack there of) for me. However...during a little mini-tri session yesterday I had the worst cramps and ended up having to take an unexpected pit stop in the middle of nowhere. No fun. Thanks to this forum I came back to the transition area save and sound but one sock short.

Nothing else was new to my routine but the drink so I want to blame it! I'm sure I could just try it again but really don't want to suffer unnecessarily (it was just so yummy for the first 10 min.).

Has anyone every used this and had good/bad experiences with it? Or do you drink something else that is not so sweet and is easy to find/buy-not on the internet?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I use Ultima as my training electrolyte drink. I first used it when training for Grandma's marathon and continued after since it's not sweetened, but I know lots who hate for that reason. As for problems ... I haven't had any GI issues when using it.

+1 pshea15 ... I have also used it when training for Grandma's the past two years (it's what they have on the course). I've had no problems with it.

I haven't tried it, but I'm a HUGE fan of Nuun for an electrolyte drink. Many local bike shops have it, and even some running places around here. It has no calories, so it's not a nutrition source as well as hydration (which IMO is good, but you need to be aware of if using it). I like it because it is way less sweet than the others, and I don't get that syrupy feeling with it.

I don't like ultima, so I usually drink gatorade.
When I want a break from that I take thermolyte tabs and drink water.
That takes care of my electrolytes and hydration.
I can decide what I want for my nutrition. ;-)

Nothing to it, but to do it

+1 for Nuun if you are just looking for Electrolytes (what plants need) but not calories.

They sell it at lots of places, including REI.

Okay so I gave Ultima another chance during a swim last night and I seemed to be okay. Thanks for the suggestion of trying out Nuun. I think I'll give that a try as well as very carefully continuing to see how Ultima will treat me.

If you mean for nuun, it is around $6.50 a tube. Each tube has 12 tablets in it, and I often just use half a tablet if putting it in one of the shorter waterbottles (all that fits on my bike). So that makes it 24 servings per tube, and less than 30 cents a serving. If you use a full tablet in each bottle, it is about 55 cents a serving. Not bad for a great tasting drink :) Plus it is easy to carry an extra tablet or two, get water at parks, and have electrolyte drink for the whole ride!
