First Tri Accomplished
Congatulations! Sounds like you had a smart race plan.
I think I can, I think I can, I think I can...
Good job! One down, many more years to go.

great job. there is nothing better than accomplishing your goal! Now your hooked
Way to go. Here's to many more to come!
My first tri was more like float, coast, jog than swim, bike, run. I've pushed myself in more recent events, but for the first, no regrets on taking it easy. Well done.
He pr'ed this time ;)
Congrats on the first race, and it's all about the smile!

great job! It's better to look back and say "I think I could have pushed a little harder" than to look back and say "Why did I push so hard!!!" and end up crawling across the finish line. :)
Congrats again, and keep on having fun!
Good job!! Congrats! Don't worry about being passed, just do your race, and finish! ;-)

Awesome. You'll never have another first tri, but hopefully you'll have many more tris.
And, as has been mentioned, just worry about yourself in your race. Don't worry about the people passing you, or even the people who you're passing.

Rock on!
what fun!!!! you always remember your first
man i wish i had taken my time in my first... is it too late to have fun?
congratulations!!!
Thanks everyone!
I will always remember my first. Now I'm already setting some more goals. I don't want to get too carried away though. :-)
All the participants were nice and none of them made me feel intimidated. Too often, people in this world tend to forget that they were once just starting out in something, and then when they do get to a higher level, they treat the "beginners" to a lesser degree. I DID NOT experience this with my 1st tri and that's another thing that I will take away from my first race.
I will always remember this and in my future races, I will always treat everyone with respect and consideration.
You all have said that the other triathletes are very nice and accomodating. They were. And so are all of you. You should be proud of the assistance you give people such as myself.

I think you hit the nail on the head there... with triathlon, almost everyone starts out being a beginner in at least one of the 3 sports, so they can all relate to what us amateurs are going through. :)
jono
i can't wait! mine is in october. then next season i'll be good to go! i wanna do 2-3 next yr.
Congrats!! Way to go!!
You are most likley the best shape of your life, your wife in NO doubt proud of you so remember this time as best you can my friend. Keep this feeling close so you can draw upon it in the future. It is true when they say that sometimes Triathlon transforms lives. It has mine and I suspect it will yours. Kepp it up an once again GREAT JOB!
The great thing about trying is that it requires no previous experience

Sorry for the length of this message.
I had a blast yesterday with my first Tri!
I was a little apprehensive when I got there and saw everyone setting up. This was my first time in a transition area and I’m glad my wife was there to keep my grounded. Now that I know what goes on, I will be more comfortable at my next race.
I’m waiting for the results to post because to tell you the truth I don’t know what my times were. I decided that I didn’t want to push myself so much that I would be crawling to the finish line, so I took my time in the transitions. My wife got some nice pictures of me taking my time. :)
I started the swim in the back, but soon made my way to the middle. When I got to my first transition, I just took my time. I think next time, I will be a little more quick. But hey, I was there having fun. All the pictures that my wife took I had a smile on my face. I will have to upload some.
I know that I didn’t do too well on the bike. So many people passed me and were ahead of me. I kept telling myself to not go too hard because I didn’t want to not have anything for the run. I think I went a bit TOO slow on the bike. Something to remember at my next race. My legs were alright, but my lower back started to kill me about ¾ of the way through. (I used to lift weights on a regular basis and sometimes my lower back muscles get tight.) Between that and not pushing myself enough, cost me some time.
Second transition was slow and methodical – didn’t want to forget to take off my helmet and look silly. Had another small snack and a swig of water. Again, next time I will be a little more aggressive.
I finished the run strong.
Like I said, now that I know what to expect, I don’t think I will be as apprehensive in some things.
I didn’t look at my watch the entire race, but my wife said that I beat my goal my about 11 minutes. The results haven’t posted yet – can’t wait to see them. My true goal was to have fun and finish my first triathlon. I did it and I can’t wait for my next!
Thanks everyone for all your assistance and putting up with my silly questions!
Paul
