Lately I've been trying to find the Powerbar Recovery drinks and I've been to a couple stores and none of them are being sold, at least that I can find... (Indianapolis) So I unless someone from Indy knows of a place that still sells it, I think I'm in the market for a new recovery drink. I've heard of Acclerade and Endurax. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding recovery drinks, some of the better brands/ cheaper? :) Thanks.

p.s. Did anyone do the Indianapolis Tuxbro triathlon this morning? I was there, and it was a pretty good race. After they post the times online, I'll be giving a race report.

You can get the Powerbar stuff at Performance (performancebike.com).

I use Endurox & like it; it's not that cheap. You'll get a bunch of people respond & say to just use chocolate milk to "save money" but per serving I think it's more expensive than the "fancy" recovery drinks. To each their own.

Hammer recoverite is the best I've used. 80% of the time, it works EVERY time. But really, it's awesome.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.

A good Heiffe is what I like. Four or five and I don't care anymore.

i use post workout recovery by advocare, as its one of the best workout drinks you'll find, but at around $3.50 a serving, i only use it after my hardest workouts. besides that i just have yogurt and drink some milk. endurox and accelerade are both good choices as well, and they make good drinks to sip on during workouts as well.

You need electrolytes, protein, and carbs for recovery.
I take a couple of electrolyte caps, wash it down with some milk, then have some recovery food.

Nothing to it, but to do it

Take a vitamin and some chocolate milk. You'll save yourself some money for some new wheels.

I go with Slim Fast Optima if I really need something after a semi tough workout, otherwise I have gone with accelerade. I've tried dark beer too, that worked well after a hot workout in the sun...

If I have anything, I have regular slim fast (chocolate is my favorite) it has 4:1 carb/protein ratio(the optima does not, if it matters). I actually drink one though before my long runs/rides on the weekend as my meal, it goes down easy and I can run/ride right after drinking it.

Thanks for the advise. I got some Cliff shot, it's got what I need and it wasn't too expensive. I may try chocolate milk at some point though. It seems like it would cheaper then buying a recovery drink.

the way milk prices are going right now, milk seems to be as expensive, if not more....

I love the Endurox R4. Get the orange because the lime doesn't taste good. You'll be glad you had a good recovery drink. I love the Endurox...

Great question, and one that I have currently entertained. I have recently switched from Endurox to Recoverite by Hammer. I am usually a bit of a skeptic, but I have noticed a significant difference in my recovery time and next day performance since using Recoverite. Hammer nutrition is pretty good about providing samples, so its a least worth a shot!

As mentioned above, chocolate milk works great as well as anything else that has about 300 calories with a 4:1 carb to protein ratio. Accerlerade fits into this group (I've not tried it though) as well as Ensure. I buy cases of Ensure at Costco for about $1 a bottle.
