Got to ride with the Canadian Olympic team last night
sweet stuff. not too many sports you can hang out w/ the top pro's like that.
so very cool! I follow Simon's blog and as a semi-Canadian (engaged to one) I feel a connection to them for the Olympics ;) Simon is totally one of my tri-crushes -- and the stuff he posts about his family life just adds to it. Cutest little girl!

That's really cool! Hope you had a good time. Glad to hear that the pros are just as awesome as the rest of the athletes are in this sport.
I'm jealous.
That is awesome! Yeah, I'm so freaking jealous! I gotta start hanging out down there--just relocated to St. Cloud (think I told you this before) but in Madison for the summer. Cool!

Very cool. Met Simon in Hawaii and try to catch blogs from time to time. Super nice guy.
Simon was very down to earth, very friendly and so were Paul and Colin. It was very easy to go up to them and talk while riding and it appeared that they enjoyed it as well. It was sure something different. Next week's ride will probably be boring compared to this...

I'm jealous.
Ditto. Not that I'd be able to keep up with them, but still it would be super cool.
It does go to show how amazing this sport really is when you can just talk to these amazing athletes and they are so down to earth. And not to hijack the thread from your incredible ride. (Of which I am extremely jealous) When I finished the Lifetime Tri this past weekend I was walking around and saw Hunter Kemper walking towards me, and as though he was my friend for years I asked him how he did. He walked over and talked to me about his race and asked me about mine and we had like a 5 min conversation and it was truly special. My friends afterwards asked me if he was a friend of mine from training and laughed and said " Who Hunter? No, he's just a former #1 in the world and will be going to his 3rd Olympics this year for the US."
Yeah, some of the pro's are really easy going about chit-chatting with normal people like us. It's cool when they ask or want to talk about your race instead of theirs.

Yeah -- it involves saying "eh" and eating lots of Tim Hortons ;)

So that was cool last night watching Simon Whitfiled (unfortunately live via the internet) almost win the gold medal but capturing the silver medal instead in Beijing. I didn't think he was going to be close as the 3 leaders pulled away but once he threw his visor off he turned it on and chased the guys down and passed them. He might of used to much energy to catch them because it seemed like he ran out of steam on his sprint to the finish with Jan Fordeno.
It was also cool to see him and his teammate Colin Jenkins towards the front of the bike pack which reminded me of our ride with them last month.

So our tri club (Gear West Tri Club) got to train / ride with the Canadian Olympic team (Simon Whitfield, Paul Tichelaar, Colin Jenkins) last night here in Plymouth, MN (just northwest of downtown Minneapolis). That was pretty cool!
They were here last week to do the Life Time Fitness Triathlon where Simon Whitfield edged out Andy Potts and Greg Bennett for the win, he took home a nice check for $60,000 for his effort. (Olympians Whitfield and Snowsill Win Life Time Fitness Triathlon) They stayed in town after the race to train for the New York City Tri this weekend. They said it was much nicer and cheaper to stay here then go there. Of course we had a hug turn out, it seemed like a road race was going on with all of us out biking (we had a sag vehicle for safety behind us). It was cool to talk to Simon, Paul and Colin along the way while biking. I got to talk to Simon about his race at Life Time, the upcoming olympics and the pollution in china and about his cool new bike he uses as a 2nd car. They were very friendly and very accommodating with the pictures and autographs afterwards. It's not everyday you get to train with the pro's.
Watch Simon this weekend and next month in Beijing, he's fast...
