aero bars?
Aerobars cut down on wind resistence. Big-time. At least 1 - 2 mph if you're going over 18 mph.
Get them now, and use them, before the season begins. I replaced my old 10 speed with a Giant TCR last year (nice!) with aerobars. Steering was scary for several weeks (steering is hyper-sensitive), and the crouched position compresses your chest and was uncomfortable for quite a while. After 3 or 4 months, I was in the aero positon most of the time, even mild inclines. Now it feels natural.
I got the Profile Design Aerostryke bars - they spring up so you can ride on the tops; although I'm almost never there anymore --- always on the aerobars or on the hoods.
One more thing - get fitted on your bike.

Good idea on buying the Aerobars now... It takes a couple of rides to get a feel for the steering, it's pretty twitchy at first, but you soon get used to it.
I bought the Profile Design Aerolites, as I lost weight I could move the bars out some (5 mm) to get in a better aero position ( since my gut wasn't in the way anymore). :)
After an entire season of using the bars, I'm either in the aero position, or I'm out on the bar ends getting on the brakes.
Now, don't try riding on them on rollers at first, especially if you are in a room full of sharp edges and your wifes' knick-knacks. I suggest a good empty parking lot instead.

One last question how is it riding long distances with the aerobars?
PAIN IS TEMPORARY, PRIDE IS FOREVER!
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't you are right!
I ride with the Syntace C2, as do a few of my friends and family:

On the long rides, I think having the aerobars is better. More options for your positioning so you don't get sore shoulders or neck from being on the handle bars or the drops all day. If I get tired I just rest on the bars, or have my hands on the pads if I need to sit more upright for a stretch (only recommended on flat/no traffic areas, I have popped off them and endoed :().
Thanks for all of your guys help I really apreciate it.

don't ride in a pace line using your areo bars unless you are pulling. Last summer we had a horrible accident where a person in the middle was on their areo bars and coudn't get to their brakes quick enough to avoid the sudden slowing of the cyclist (me) in front of him (avoiding dead animal at the last moment).....very very bad accident happened. Carbon fibre bike actually broke in half, along with many bones.
Thanks guys I think im going to get the carbon stryke aero bars. Im pretty excited ive been buying a lot of stuff like new shoes and pedals and other good stuff. Im going to get fitted properly this week. Thanks again guys for all of your help and advice.

Hey guys,
What are the benefits of aero bars? Is this something I should really be getting I don't have a problem spending the money for them just curious if they are that important.
Thanks
