Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer fits your criteria if you haven't read it.
- Ultra Marathon Man— Dean Karnazes (Not so much a training book as an inspirational story)
- Way of the Peaceful Warrior— Dan Millman. Everyone, especially endurance athletes should read this. It's the kind of book that everyone sort-of understands, but you understand on a whole different level if you are an athlete.
- The Alchemist— Paul Cohelo (Kind of like Way of the Peaceful Warrior
- Anything by David Sedaris. You will catch yourself laughing out loud. I recommend Me Talk Pretty One Day
Things to Be Survived: tales of resolution and resurrection-Scott Tinley
The Inner Triathlete-Stephen Brown (quick read)
Under the Banner of Heaven - Nonfictional scary history of the FLDS Church
Angels and Demons - Fiction
A Brief History of Everything - Nonfiction, um, a brief history of everything. (recommend book on tape so you don't get tired head)
I finished reading 2 good Books
Strides by Benjamin Cheever,
My Life on the Run, by Bart Yasso.
Nothing to it, but to do it
Swimming to Antarctica: Tales of a Long-Distance Swimmer, by Lynne Cox.
I am a big fan if historical fiction. Anything by Bernard Cornwell is worth reading.
For mystery type action check out anything by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They write together and the books are impossible to put down.
"If you set a goal for yourself and are able to achieve it you have won your race." -Dave Scott

Swimming to Antarctica: Tales of a Long-Distance Swimmer, by Lynne Cox.
My favorite book ever!
I also like "The Extra Mile" by Pam Reed.
For motivation:
Lance Armstrong: 'It's not about the bike'
For some fun and interestingly written reads:
Anything Kurt Vonnegut
Weary is the path that does not challenge.
Thanks guys-this all makes a great list. I'll plan to take just a few with me or I'll totally get into them and spend all of my time obsessively reading!
+1 on a short history of nearly everything. And generally anything written by Bill Bryson.
Anything by Bill Bryson is entertaining, educational, and generally easy to read. I can't tell you how many times I've laughed out loud while reading his stuff.
If you're into history, I've recently gotten into David McCullough. He wrote John Adams, 1776, etc. I can't put them down.
If you can find Iron Will by Mike Plant, it is amazing.
Shane is one of my other favorites. Shane by Jack Schaefer
Enjoy!

I also liked Swiming to Antarctica a lot. I'm reading a Concise History of the Roman Catholic Church by Thomas BokenKotter and Philosophy of History by William H. Dray. (Yes, I am a history and philosophy major, and yes I am a nerd...) Both of these books I thought were good, the latter if you're interested in philosophy, but the Concise History, I thought, would be good for anyone who is looking for a good overview of church history from a Roman Catholic perspective. But if you're looking for something more relaxed, I definitely enjoyed Swimming to Antarctica. I read it in two days because it was sooo good.

I'm looking for some summer beach reading. I thought while I'm relaxing I could be motivated at the same time.
What are some of your favorite books? I'm looking for some adventure-fiction or non-fiction related to endurance athletes. Not so much training/instructional books but just for a fun, good read kind of book.
Well...and actually if you just have a really awesome book-that has nothing to do with this- that you think everyone should read.. that would be great to know too!
