I just got my new Garmin 405. Love it so far. But I've found a few update pages:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=4099

Do you download these updates via the Ant or via the USB cable and the charging clip?

I downloaded the Garmin Connect software, but couldn't get it to find my 405.

Any help is appreciated, I called Garmin Customer Service and they had over 30 min wait time.

Thread hijack! What's better the 305? or 405?

NO! Let's keep things organized instead.

Thank you for saying something, I hate when people do this.

yeah... I mean... a threadjack is one thing, but not on the first post... there is so much information that gets lost in a threadjack. We're going to have this whole discussion about 305 vs. 405, and nobody will ever be able to find it.

In response to your question, the Garmin Manual says:

Quote:

  1. Go to www.garmin.com/products/webupdater and download the latest software to your computer.
  2. Confirm that you want to perform the update. ANT Agent transfers the update to your Forerunner.
  3. Make sure your device stays in range of the computer during the update process.

I hope that helps.

I have also heard that they don't, but if they work anywhere as well as the 205 "works" with my MacBook, then I'd say it's not even worth trying.

I believe Mac support for the 405 is something that is "coming soon" -- right now the Garmin Training Center info does say that the Forerunner 405 is supported on PC only.

However, I have heard that there is non-garmin software out there that does work with it and on a Mac. But as a PC person I didn't pay attention to the details.

I tried it again using the Ant Stick and it worked just fine updating the firmware. It also loaded my workouts no problem.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Unfortunately, most of the software solutions for Mac cost money... :\

My biggest problem is that the Garmin Software for Mac doesn't import map files from mapmyrun, but it works on PC... strange. For whatever reason it just crashes the Garmin Mac stuff...

well, i guess that i'll wait for the "Coming soon." It seem like simple thing for the people at Garmin to do, but what ever, this isn't the first time i've ran into this problem. thanks for the info guys.

Instead of creating a new thread I will use this one. I recently won a Forerunner 405 at a local sprint. I won it through a drawing not because I am fast. It is probably the first time I have won anything through a drawing. Few questions. Any help is appreciated!

Do you have to use a Garmin heart rate monitor or will any other brand work?
Since it is very detailed in saying not to swim it in, does anyone take the time to put the watch on during T1 or T2? I’d imagine it might be worthless to do in a sprint, but what about an Oly or longer?
Any experience use the bike mode? Is it worth the hassle of changing the mode?
Any other tips?

Thanks!

Tri-ac, thanks for the link. That was good info. I am still curious if and how anyone uses it in a race.

I use one of its relatives racing (Garmin Forerunner 301). I often just use it on the run. For transition I just grab it and then I strap it on as I start jogging.
