Hello,

I am new to the whole tri thing and have a question about a bike computer / heart rate monitor. I am wondering whether to have a separate computer and monitor for biking and running or is there one that will work for both. I really want all the info on the bike ( cadence, milage and heart rate) but do not know anything about bike computers and am completely lost. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Kevin

I use a Garmin 305 for running and biking. It's on the expensive side, but it logs my heart rate, pace, and course for running, and on the bike it does the same, plus cadence. I've also used it a few times to find my way back after getting lost.

There's other products that do the same thing, but I'm not sure of the model and cost vs Garmin's.

(Please no "report this post" as I am not affiliated with Garmin)

The Polar S series appears to do the same thing, and about the same cost.

I recently bought a Blackburn Delphi 5.0 bike computer. It has HR, cadence, everything but Altitude. I really like it except no stem mount, so I had to make a mount between my aero bars. It was only $100. While those other units are combined, it my be cheaper to buy 2 separate units, one for bike, one for running. If your not interested in GPS, that might be the way to go.

polar cs100

+ the cadence unit

if you search a bit, you can probably get this setup cheaper

any polar watch can work with the HR strap
