Sport Poems/Writings
This has a simlar iambic pentameter to "the night before christmas."
Which is how I feel sometimes when I'm getting ready to do a workout. It's the same type of antcipation or build up to the moment. Instead of getting presents, I get numbers which I use to get a better present next time.
Although, I like repeats, I cannot do 800 of them. Atleast, without a lot of breakfast on the road.
Granted I am only a cyclist and runner and might catch some flak bc I am not a true triathlete but I was sports writer and follow endurance sports - the Tour right now - I have been support crew and ride with a few sponsored tri guys/girls. I follow this site quite a bit but have always kept it at arms length and never joined or submited however being a writer I was compleled to submit something a colleague wrote:
Can you?
Can you sleep?
Can you wake?
Can you slip through?
Can you stroke?
Can you bridge?
Can you cover?
Can you pull?
Can you sit in?
Can you pace?
Can you work?
Can you drill it?
Can you jump?
Can you flush them?
Can you breathe?
Can you find it?
Can you stride?
Can you kick?
Can you win? I can.
Granted it may be geared towards dus and crits but...
Still kinda cool.
BD - I like it, and I'm glad you spoke up :)
Nice BD, and join in more! You don't have to be a triathlete to have fun stories and information to share about biking or running or who knows what else :) And who knows maybe one day we'll even catch ya in the pool ;)
Still like the Haiku thread better...;)

From a while back. Have written since then, but this has remained my favorite.
The Distance
A bright day,
or rainy,
seemingly miserable
Yet not…
Passing by, the leaves rustle
a familiar house appears up the road,
or one unexpected
In the distance, close, they hear someone
breathing freely,
relaxing to the air or gulping it as life
Steady pounding flows on
slowing, then speeding
lasting seemingly forever
or until the next bend
A small child looks up as they pass
a smile appears on an otherwise dusty face
watching them singly, or grouped
…running

Does anyone do any creative writing to release their feelings about training?
I happen to do it a lot. It helps me reflect on what makes me happiest in this sport. Thought I'd share a little something I wrote on my track workouts this winter.
Endorphin High......
It’s a beautiful day, before dawn to start,
A run through the suburbs while it’s still dark.
The air is crisp, it’s cold and thin,
I take my first breath let my run begin.
Oxygen enters and flows through my chest,
My lungs feel tight, squeezed and highly compressed.
My legs are light and trout along,
Keeping it slow at my warm up song.
Approaching the track and my the anticipation grows near,
For soon I will be flying what I love oh so dear.
Jumps, skips, hops and leaps,
Checking my form, the benefits I’ll reap…
In my 5k, 10k, ½ and marathon, triathlon times
Outshines as the successor, crossing the glorious finisher’s line.
Just a glimpse at motivation to get me through workout,
Eliminating all fears, wonders or doubts.
Of pain that might rear it’s evil head my way,
Bring it on baby, cause I’m not one to stray.
Now time to hit the cardiovascular training,
800 repeats and I’m still sustaining…
My energy for the next steps to go
400’s now.....Anaerobic………. & in the zone.
My body is iced, numbing and cold,
My core is hot and my blood overflows.
My heart beats strong, my blood is gushing,
Through my veins and muscles, which makes my legs start rushing….
The concrete as if it wasn’t there at all,
Not thinking, just doing, praying my clumsy ass doesn’t fall.
But how does one fall when she flies through the sky?
This my friends is called my endorphin high.
