Im' having a little trouble with my bike fitting....

I've been to two bike stores to try and get fit for a tri bike. The first LBS said I would fit on a 58cm tri bike (Cervelo and others). The next one said I would fit on a 60 cm bike (Trek and others). I tried them both out on their trainers and they both felt good. I am currently riding a 60cm Trek road bike with clip-on aero bars and feel very stretched out when I'm in the aero position. That apparently is normal with a road bike with clip-ons.

I'm 6'2" and 205 lbs. I have a 34 inseam and have a fairly proportional upper body. I want to be absolutely positive on the size before I plunk down some serious cash.

I guess my question is...what size bike do you think I would prefer? I feel like I'm right between bike sizes a 58 and 60cm. Very confused....

Thanks

If I was considering plopping down some big buks for a bike, or more importantly, would like a perfect bike fit, I'd say to go to a tri-specific or TT focused bike shop if there is one in town. My friend recently purchased a tribike from a bike shop which didn't fit her, they wouldn't take it back after numerous fitment complaints... she finally ended up selling the bike online and visiting a tri/TT specific shop. They fit her like a glove.

Take the time to shop around. There are as many fitment opinions as there are bike fitters.

Weary is the path that does not challenge.

I am 6'2'' 155 lbs and ride a 58 cm Felt B12 for whatever its worth. I tried a 60 cm at my fitting and definitely felt stretched.

When I was looking last year I found whatever the store had in stock was what they recommended, ranging from 56 to 60, even at the high end tri shops. I'm 5'11" with a 34 inseam. I went with the 56 on account of my short torso; I felt less stretched out. In the end it comes down to your specific body type and which size feels more comfortable. If you're reasonably proportioned (unlike myself), and if you can't discern the difference in feel it probably doesn't matter.

Personally, I would go with the 58. From my own experience it has been easier to stretch out the seat and aero bars than it is shrink them.

ditto on all, but based on your height and inseam, I'd say the 58. I'm 6'4" with 36 inseam and have a 60 road bike not tri (and I sometimes feel stretched). But, definitely get fit and the most important thing is that it feels good to you.

Assuming you have a properly fitted road bike, I'd guess your tri bike size is a 58. You're pretty close to Atlanta, I'd go to:

all3sports.com
Address: 8601 Dunwoody Place, Suite 450
Atlanta, Georgia 30350
Phone: 770.587.9994
Fax: 800.975.2553

I bet they can fit you properly.

If I lived in Michigan, I'd go to:

I don't know Tom but I think he's a pretty smart fellow from what I've read.

Ditto on the bikesportmichigan.com bought my Cervelo there for a killer price and Tom was easy to work with. To the orginally poster I am 6'1 and I ride a 56' Cervelo P2 SL Dura-Ace (33 inseam)

I did not personally get fitted when I went to buy my bike a few weeks ago but when I sat down and had the seat adjusted properly, it just felt comfortable. I am 6'3" about 200lbs and ? on the inseam, but the 58(Trek E9) feels like it was ment for my body. A little tweaking on the areo bars for length and angle and a little play with the seatpost and I feel much more comfortable than i did on my 63cm road bike with PD Aristrykes.
