I want to upgrade helmets soon from my $30 Trek helmet. I here the Atmos really sucks wind through keeping your head cooler. Is this true?

My race calendar includes 4 sprint tri's over the next 8 months, then 1 Olympic, then 1/2 Ironman, then IMFL 2009.

Any recommendations regarding Aero vs Atmos? Also, I live in TX, only telling this because it's HOT!

If you have an aero helmet, you will probably want a normal helmet. So get both if you have to have an aero helmet.

I live in Dallas, and I only have 1 helmet, a Bell Sweep R, and it does the job for me.

You are trying to compare apples and oranges and you know how well that works.

The Giro Atmos will be much cooler. I have the Bell Sweep R which is similar and I love it, I use it for training and racing.

The Giro Advantage2 helmet is an aero helmet and can be much hotter when in use. You would not want to use this for training rides, probably only races.

I would go with the Giro Atmos as a general purpose helmet and then if you want an aero helmet later, buy the Giro Advantage2.

P.S. Not sure what size and color you are looking for in the Giro Atmos but I have a brand new one, but it's a size L and it doesn't work for me. If you are interested drop me a line.

Atmos.

I used to overheat up top, but not anymore. However in winter, it can be a bit cool, so I have wear extra layers on the head, or maybe its from the slowly reducing of my natural insulation up there.

Go the Atmos. You wont be disappointed.

I have both - and love 'em. I use the Atmos for training - and the Advantage2 for racing. Really haven't had any issue with heat in the Advantage2 - Did a couple HIM's so far this year with it.

So if you can, get both! Otherwise go with the Atmos.

I have the Giro Advantage 2 and heart it. Keeps my head really cool and it's super comfortable.

Do you train in it or just race?

Just race....to expensive to risk crashing on a training ride, plus I'm uber clumsy so the likelihood of that happening are high.

I have an Atmos for training and I love it. It really keeps my head cool and comfortable. Like the others have said, I wouldn't recommend the Advantage for everyday use. If can afford both, then get both. If not, the Atmos is probably the way to go.

I love my Atmos. I'll probably go aero when I decide to do a HIM in the near future.

I started competing in triathlons 2 years ago and fell in love with the sport. Because heart disease runs in both sides of my family, I figured that training and competing in tris will help delay the inevitable.

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. Looks like I am getting an Atmos now.
