Well, I spent almost my entire day off at the bike shop today.
I must say, it would be awesome to work at such a high end shop.

I spent the day getting fitted on 4 different bikes and riding them. (on the trainer as it was raining outside)

I rode (kind of) a 2008 Orbea Ora (dura-ace special edition), 2007 Felt B2, 2008 Felt B12, and (of course) 2008 Cervelo P2C.

All of them were quite nice to ride, as I'm used to a 12yr old attempt at merging carbon with aluminum known as the Trek 2300 Pro. (I still love that bike.)

The Orbea was the most difficult to setup, luckily they had a few masts already cut to differing sizes. It was a really nice bike with upgraded wheels, carbon aero bars, FSA carbon cranks, and ultegra brakes. Not to mention it was a good looking bike in black and white. (I've yet to see an ugly Orbea)

Next up was the 2008 B12. A really nice bike also. All Ultrega and FSA. It seemed somewhat limited in the fitments it can obtain only having one set seating position. Really nice bike, but quite as comfortable as the others and it had a relatively cheaper set of wheels than the others as well.

The 2007 B2 was in my opinion one of the sexiest bikes in 07. It was built with a mix of Dura Ace, Ultrega, and FSA Carbon Cranks. With it's naked carbon frame and the red graphics, it screams fast. The internal cable routing is very slick. The hidden rear brake was also very neat, but with the solid carbon chain ring it looks hard to adjust or replace the drive side brake pads without removing the big ring from the crank. The color matched Easton wheels where an awesome paring with the too cool Felt B2.

Last was the 08 Cervelo P2C. It was a Dura Ace Shifters/Dérailleurs, FSA carbon cranks, and Cervelo branded brakes (assuming Tektro). We adjusted the seat, this thing just fit. It was the only bike with ski bend bars in lieu of (in my opinion) less comfortable S bend bars more suited for TT's.

The trainer I was riding them on had wireless wattage. Even with all the bikes fit pretty much dialed in, I could put out about 20 more watts on the P2C. I'm not sure if this was mental or not. I rode the Cervelo last out of all them, and spent a good 15-20mins or so on all 4.

On all 3 other bikes I was putting out 235 watts (+/- 3 watts) @ 20-22mph. However, on the Cervelo I averaged over 255 watts @ 24-25mph with the same perceived effort. Like I said, I dont' know if this was a mental thing, but I rode this bike when I should have been most tired.

So, after 5hrs at the bike shop and 80mins on a trainer, (not a bad workout for a rainy day) I walked out of the bike shop with a brand new triathlon steed.

And the winner is..........The Cervelo. It is such a sweet bike. Comfortable. Sleek. I didn't base my decision solely on the wattage output, but it didn't hurt. Cervelo has a pretty reputable name in bikes and that can't hurt resale value. (Should I ever decide to change bikes)

So, I got the P2C home with Look Keo Sprint pedals, Lake tri shoes, Beaker Concepts Hydro Tail w/Profile Design Stryke Bottle Holders, Pedros Blowout Seatbag, and a Sigma BC1606 Wireless Computer w/Cadence. And just in time for my next sprint on the 20th.

I can't wait for my next ride/run brick. I'll let you all know how the bike works over actual terrain and how the aero position feels after a few hours.

Thank you all for your input in my previous thread you made my decision much easier to make. (It still took me 5hrs, but I did it.)

I'll upload a few photos once I find my camera. (I know you've all seen a P2C, but what the hey...)

Happy Tri-ing!

JB

Good choice! Now you can name her and post in the 'what's the name of your bike" thread. :)

I wish I had more days like that! Looking forward to the pics.

To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!

Wow - sounds like you got a sweet bike. I had test driven a Cervelo P2C (and P2SL) last year and found it a little unstable for me, perhaps because I am tall (I rode the 60cm). It was also a bit more expensive, even the P2SL, than I could justify on a bike - especially if I might do only two or three tris in a year. Instead I got a bargain on a 2006 model Felt S32 that I like very much. At some point I may get a Cervelo, it just seems like a better bike. Enjoy the riding!
