Muncie HIM, any advice?
This will be a great first HIM for you. I did this last year and will be there again this year. Very well run race. The swim goes right into the sun on the way back. It looks like they changed it a little bit this year to account for it though. The bike is relatively flat and fast unless it is windy. Be prepared for a rolling run though. No big hills but enough to wipe you out. I was expecting a nice flat fast run....boy was I surprised. Oh...and the finish line is up hill :)
Good Luck!
It was my first HIM last year and I too will be there again, in 5 days!!!
My comments would completely echo wallflower's about the race and course.
Supposedly one of the oldest half iron races, this is it's 28th year I think? (probably the reason for it originally, and still, being called the Muncie "Endurathon")
Good luck!
I am going to be there also... and it will be my first HIM. I am just wondering what to wear on the Bike and Run... it is supposed to be pretty hot!
Good luck to you all!!
I've done it the past two years. A great race - the course is closed to traffic and the volunteers and aid stations are great! Just make sure you have good directions or have gone out to the race site before the race day - the roads are not well marked.
The bike course is flat to rolling and fast unless it is windy. Last year most of the course was cross winds - except where it was a headwind...
The run is very hilly when you are thinking flat midwest state - how hilly can it be?? To help with the heat, try to run in the shade and the aid stations will have towels soaked in ice water - get a new one at every aid station and put it over your shoulders. Yeah, you'll look like a dork but it'll keep you cool. The finish is uphill but it is a fitting way to end a good race.

ugh, it killed me...

yeah, and growing up in the area it seems they found the only hilly spot within a 20mi radius...
at least it was very cool for july last year, this year's forecast: hot and humid
it may seem like trivial advice, but wearing a hat and sunglasses help me out a lot in the sun and heat.

Next saturday i am competing in the Muncie Indiana HIM! This will be my first HIM distance race and was looking for any general tips or info on the course. Has anyone else done this race in the past?
