Ice saved Sat workout
glad to hear you go some help out on the road! 105 is brutal!
i sometimes freeze my bottles the night before if i know i'm going to ride in hot weather. they thaw completely by the time i get to them, but usually they're still slightly cool (our temps never break 100 tho). also, leave a frozen bottle in a cooler in your car...it should be a slushy by the time you get back to it.

tough day! There is a guy who has been hanging out at the top of a popular bike path near me that has ICY gatorade and ice, and there is a waterfountain right there. He sells the gatorade to cyclists, and give those just filling their bottles ice. There have definitely been rides where he was my goal ;)
how nice! we reach the 100s, and often I have to fill up with water from the water fountain on the trail I ride (back and forth and back and forth...) it's warm, but it's water
It was to late to freeze when I thought about it! I have to do that race day, since we drop everything off Saturday for Sunday in T2 at Vineman!
I could fundraise that why if I know where people ride where I live??? Last time I did Torrey Hill Repeats a company gave away bottles with gaterade in them. Nice bottles too!
Husband and kid were SAG on Sunday... though they reached at mile 7 with 2 to get home, I didn't mind!

Saturday I headed out thinking I'd ride 50 miles. (It was a 4 hour ride per training) I have two bottles on the back, two on the frame and aero. I left about 9:00 am. I felt great till about mile 42 when everything was hot, now being a vetran I usually carry a $5 bill on me (for the tire wall just incase). I pulled off the road to try and dig through my bag and no money. I tried to call my dad, but no cell service. I could get to the fire station, but I could be spent and still need to get home. I sucked it up and turned for home. A guy in a truck pulled over in front of me to check on me and said he had seen me stopped. I told him my story and I asked for $2. He gave me $5 and said ride safe. There was a store a half mile down the road and I got a bag of ice and a bottle of water. The ice covered all the bottles, some for my top, some for the pants and some for the helemt. I took pictures to share, but I'll have to post those tonight. I got home 4:18 hours and it was 105.
Vineman last year reached the nineties, so specific training was in play. I will say I personally didn't feel hot or overheated. I use one of my bottles strictly for the head on the rides. I am glad to know there are people who will stop and help. Happy Monday!
