Attaching Aero Bars

I just got a great deal on some aero bars on ebay. Problem: when they got here, the opening was too big around and I couldn't clamp them tight on my handlebar. Does anyone know anything I could use to clamp them down tight and stay in place or shall I be punished for my stupidity in taking apparentlly incorrect measurements?

Thanks.

you're probably looking at the 26 vs 38mm differential. go to a craft store or to a home improvement store and look for something rubber (or flex plastic) to use as a shim.

If they are profile design bars, PD makes shims to adapt 38mm attachments to 26mm base bars. If they don't send them to you for free it's probably less that five bucks.

As others said, you don't need to clamp them down harder, you need shims to make the area of your bars wider. Any piece of rubber will do (and rubber is great because it produces a lot of friction and prevents them from rotating) or you can buy shims that are specifically designed to be used for handlebars, so they will be exactly the right size.

Has anyone heard anything about using a coke can as a shim?
