Inner Tube Sealant leading up to the race

I found this "Slime" Tube Sealant at Walmart(I know... Walmart?) and was wondering if anybody had any experience with something like this.
I currently am just relying on my tires not getting a hole during training, if they do I'll call someone to pick me up and I'll change it when I get home. I have my first tri coming up on Sunday, July 13 and will be hauling my bike around on top of my car starting tomorrow(Thurs) from PA to Atlanta to SC and then on to TN for the tri Sunday. I will be taking long easy rides to stay strong but will be mainly tapering in my vacation time up to the race. Should I put in this slime just in case I hit a nail or something or go about it the old fashioned way and carry tubes and CO2? I'd love any input from the group, any experience with the stuff, whatever.

Thanks in advance.

i have used slime in my mountain bike tires (so far so good), but it does add rotational weight, which you don't really want in a race . . . there are sealants from continental and others which are sort of like inner tubes in a bottle, which you can use if you get a (small) puncture during a race, and then you can fix the flat or change the tube afterwards; the sealants also work for tubes. maybe a bit better for racing situations.

"Old fashioned way?" Tubes and Co2 or a mini pump are the only way to go...Slime, which I've only used in MTB tires is there to enable you to get home, where you then change out the punctured tube.
For the road bike...I've tried both Slime and Tufo sealant in road bike tires...it never worked.

FWIW the guy at my LBS said if you use Slime you need to get the tube out of the rim as soon as you get home, or risk gluing the tube or even the tire to the rim.

I had slime in my tubes for my first race, and that's basically what messed me up. Basically, it kept seeping through the hole, and messing up the patches I tried to put on the tire. I'll never use it again. I would definitely stay away from it. If you have any kind of flat other than a tiny pin prick, then you're screwed.

Can someone explain the vittoria pit stop to me? I remember reading a race report where someone used it last year, but I was confused about how that works. In any case it seems like a better solution than pre-sliming your tires and adding all of that weight

It like a combo of CO2 and tire sealant in one. So you get a thorn-type flat and all you do is pull the thorn out and reinflate/patch all at once. I haven't used it yet, but do have it when I race.

okay, that makes sense then. I was under the impression that it filled your tube completely instead of using air, perhaps with a foam type material. The fact that I never checked on my own was just laziness :-\
