Raindrops on Roses
I just like feeling so damn happy when I'm out there on the bike or swimming in a lake, or running on a pretty trail.
I like the friendliness of triathletes and how encouraging they are to each other, even in competition.
I like feeling at 42 that I have a young and strong body. So many people my age are already starting to feel old. I can go all day and not get tired.
I like the people I've met in the sport over the years, and how when I go to a triathlon I see familiar faces smiling back.
That's just a few of many.

l like passing people. I mean I really love it, it's the greatest. Sometimes I even get to do it
:-)
Also: When it all comes together on a run.
Setting PR's
having the nurse check your HR twice, because it surely wasn't that low
I love...
-The tri "family"
-Seeing how far I can push my body
-The look on people's faces when I tell them how far I swim, bike, and run
-All of the cool "toys"
-Never getting bored with training
-Being able to go to my 10 yr. High School reunion in small town Idaho with shaved legs and not give a damn what my classmates think
-Knowing that triathlete's get better with age and I'm only 28
- Looking so damn good in lycra
Or thinking you look cool in lycra although you're over forty and straight
+1 on the nurse checking HR twice
+1 PRs
+1 eating whatever
+1 looks on faces when I tell them how far i go
Others:
-Proving everyone wrong
-My bike
-Kick a$$ swim workouts in the lake after a night of tequila...
-Being in the best shape of my life (better than HS XC, and I'm 23 so not that far removed)
Having people ask: Why are you doing that! So you explain and they still don't get it or think your just crazy. I love the fact that people just don't understand it. Except for all of you.
I love it when I am swimming laps in the pool and someone will share the lane. They might swim the first couple of laps faster then slowly I catch them and pass them. Then soon they leave and it happens with another person...then another person. I feel like the energizer bunny - "still going".
I love getting out on my bike just when the sun comes up on a beautiful weekend morning and the legs feel good. No cars or other people around and I get down in the aero bars and I feel like I could ride forever.
+1 on the nurse asking me to run around a little for my pulse and blood pressure to jump up.
I love it that people at the pool tell me that they don't want to share the lane with me b/c I am intimidatingly fast (makes me giggle b/c I am really not that fast, as we all know, it's all relative)
I love that my friends and family think I am a little nutty for waking up early to work out for 2-3 hrs.
I love that the "tri community" don't think I am nutty for the same reason- that's just another workout- again, it's all relative.
I love that training has taught me to live in the moment- it's hard to swim, bike or run while multi-tasking- it's all or nothing, and that is a big deal for me.
I LOVE the worn out tired but accomplished feeling after a long run/bike/brick. The feeling that you just conquered the world and you have the whole day ahead of you.
and I have to admit that besides all those things, it is all about the food for me. I love to eat and I hate feeling guilty for eating the food I love- and after one of those gut wrenching 3 hr bricks, I don't have to feel guilty (and people's eyes literally pop out of their heads when they see what I devour ;)
Some of my favorite things:
+1 to lycra/spandex :-)
- sunrise, especially when I'm running. On those special little occasions when I can run on the beach/boardwalk as the sun comes up over the ocean, it makes everything worthwhile.
- summer mornings while it's still cool and the sun isn't up yet, you can actually hear the birds and the air is fresh.
+1 to the worn out tired but accomplished feeling. :-)
- snot rockets. Breathing clearly after a good solid snot rocket is a wonderful thing ;-)
- Going into pre-op for surgery and telling the nurse your heart rate based on how you feel and you end up being only 2bpm off...
- The sound a disc makes when you get a good wind to help yah...
- Hearing my freinds and family say, "your crazy for doing those"
- All the life-long friends that I have made from this sport....
- And a sappy one, watching my girlfriend (AlwaysTri) cross this finishline with a HUGE smile on her face after her first race only to find out later her asthma flaired like crazy, chain broke, and blisters burst but to know that another human is addicted to this great sport!

Doesn't your head hurt? Maybe it is my age now, but an ocean swim makes my tummy feel wierd.
-I love race morning! I'm set and can people watch..
-I love knowing I'm part of a GREAT group of people in the Tri world!
-I loved meeting Scott Tinley at his house on my b-day to sign his books:)
-I love watching newbies who asked a few questions and then said you were right!
-Feel like crap going into a workout and coming out with lets do it again attitude.
-I love CHALK HILL (I will repeat it enough that I can ride through in a few weeks like last year!)
-I love people who ask why do you do it? I do it because I can.
The best and what I love the most- My fmaily at the finish line.
- The community
- The shape I am in (best shape of my entire life; wedding dress too big; pre-kid jeans too big)
- That non-triathletes think I'm crazy and love to say "I could NEVER do that"
- Doing something I said I could NEVER do
- Getting stronger
- Being in a race club
- That sweaty, stinky, shimmery, quavery feeling after a long hard workout or a race
- A 21st Century Mom who is tri-ing to get better instead of just getting older
www.breakingthetape.com/21stcenturymom
all of the above -
- and that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when the finish is in sight, and that boost of adrenaline that comes with it.
- my daughter asking if i came in last, everytime
- the quiet times of a long run alone
- and the sound of the elites/pros flying by on disc wheels
Don't be so easy on yourself 'cause this one might be all that you have left
-The flavor of cut oranges at the finish line is more delicious than any item on a Michelin star restaurant.
-The look of health and strength in those 50+ age groupers is something I can aspire to in my older years as opposed to growing old weak and fat.
-The feel of catching a wave and riding it to shore successfully
-The look of big fat marker numbers on the arms... war paint...
-The supportive nature amongst the community of competitors.
-At races where the water is rough, hearing spectators say "oh how scary" at the gigantic waves crashing in and knowing that it only looks worse than it really is.

So those would be "Socket's snot rockets"....hehehe

Moonlight Beach or Carlsbad... HUGE waves sometimes where people cannot make it out. Other days just a swim in the ocean!

As promised, here's the counter thread to our collective commiseration about early runs, losing count in the pool, and (of course) chafing.
What do you love about triathlon and everything that goes with it? Here are a few to get you going . . .
- The self-assurance to know that the skinny girl with the ipod who just passed you would ABSOLUTELY NOT pass you if she had just run 10 miles.
- Watching jaws drop when you share how much your bike costs (or how much your dream bike costs)
- Looking so damn good in lycra
- Eating whatever the heck you want, ESPECIALLY in front of bodybuilders ;-)
