Headache

Lately, whenever I go out on the bike within half an hour into the ride, I get a bad headache. The kind that you can't ignore or will it away. Even tylenol doesn't seem to work. I first got it while I was riding up to 1200 ft two weeks ago. But now I seem to get it everytime. It makes me want to get off the bike.

I do know it's not from dehydration. I have a timer that goes off every 5 mins on my watch and triggers me to drink.

Has anyone else had this happen? And what did you do about it?

Hey partner, 55 days now, going to be great, don't worry.

re: headaches. Can't diagnose without seeing you but maybe have a suggestion:
neck strain.
You're a nurse, you can analyse that possibility, but I know peeps who have had a neck injury and tightness there so any strain on the neck results in a headache.

- get a neck massage, ice it, stretch and strengthen your neck by bending over at the waist and performing the up-down head motions slowly. Stretch-release. Ibuprofen.
Check your pillow, maybe it's worn out.

best I got, god luck with it,

Geoff

funny you should mention the neck. I was kind of thinking that might be the source. I'm currently getting physical therapy for my neck and shoulders due to the numbness in my hands, which has decreased since I started. I'll have to bring that up to my PT and see what can be done. He massages my neck for me and puts heat on it after my sessions. We'll see though. I'd like to use Ibu, but I'm worried about it affecting my kidneys during the workout. Once in a while might not be so bad though...

Posture, posture, posture. :)

See ya in less than two months!

Are you doing the Desert Half in Oliver next weekend? If so, I'll see you there!

Did you get professionally fit for your bike. You might be too stretched out, or you might be holding your head at a weird angle while you ride. I would also really try to concentrating on relaxing your upper body. I find that when I'm tense, I get pain in my neck, shoulders, hands, etc. Just something to think about. Good luck, and hopefully you can get it figured out.

I find it happens for me if I have a helmet on that doesn't fit that well. Even if too big, since then cinching it down puts pressure in weird spots on my head.

I was thinking the same thing. If I ratchet it down too tight, I get a headache.

+1 TriSooner for too tight. I was getting a slight headache on my ride yesterday and the only thing that I changed was a slight tightening of my helmet.

Also, it might not be that the helmet is too tight. My old helmet kind of just poked into my head in certain parts. I might have a misshapen head, or maybe the helmet was just weird, but you might pay attention to that too. Although, I'm guessing that would have been obvious.

..or your cape is tied to tight...but only ChunkyB has to worry about that.

I didn't even think about the tightness of my cape! That'll be the first thing I assess! :)

It could be my helmet too I suppose. I tighten it so that I can see cuz otherwise I have really put my head back to be able to see which really bothers my neck.

I'm thinking it might be a good idea to bring my handle bars up a few notches. Even though the aero position is great and all, it might be a little too aggressive for me. 112 miles is a long ways to go wilst being uncomfortable and in pain. Maybe I should work on my mental toughness then too and stop being a little weeny... ;)

NO! Comfort on the bike is critical for the IM. Get fit right and raise the handlebars if you have to. It might make all the diff.

PS: we'll get back to you sortly for the date! Pretty close to IM Toni. I guess you both will be there?

Ciao for now!

Comfort first, aero second. If you can't stay in the aerobars because of too much discomfort, it won't matter how low they are.

wonderful!! I'm getting that baby raised. I did have it professionally fit and he actually didn't make it as aggressive as he could have.

BBB - No worries if you can't make it to the BBQ. Jere will be with me at IMC so you can meet him there if you like. :)
